A24 Horror Movie With 89% RT Score Pᴀsses A Key Box Office Milestone In Just Two Weeks

A24 is often a leader in the horror genre, but the studio has had some misses in recent times. They were especially up and down at the end of 2024. On the one hand, they released Heretic, which did well both at the box office and with critics. Hugh Grant’s villainous performance earned praise and even scored the actor a Golden Globe nomination. However, the back half of last year saw releases like The Front Room and Y2K, both of which struggled to land with both audiences and critics.

The studio also didn’t have a great start in 2025. March saw two back-to-back disappointments with Opus and Death of a Unicorn. Both had big ensemble casts that were led by stars from recent hit streaming shows. However, Death of a Unicorn only made $16 million in total and got lackluster reviews. Opus did even worse, making just $2.1 million worldwide. Following these releases, A24 put out another horror movie in theaters, and that film has just crossed a major milestone.

Bring Her Back Has Crossed The $15 Million Mark

And It Did So In Under Two Weeks

Bring Her Back has now pᴀssed a major box office milestone. The horror movie is the second feature from Australian directorial duo and brothers Danny and Michae Philippou, who previously made a splash with Talk to Me in 2023. The Philippous return with another trauma-based story, this time telling the tale of two siblings who go to live with a foster mother after their own father dies. The film features Sally Hawkins in the lead role, with a supporting cast that includes Billy Barratt, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sora Wong, and Mischa Heywood.

Per Box Office Mojo, Bring Her Back has now made over $15 million at the worldwide box office. This total is made up of $14.1 million from the domestic box office and an additional $1 million overseas. This total could still increase, as the movie is still in theaters in the United States and has some global markets still to release in. With the movie reported to have a $15 million budget, this milestone just covers the surface of it.

What This Means For A24

Bring Her Back Puts A24 On A Recovery Path

So far, Bring Her Back is still performing below the Philippous’ Talk to Me, which ended up earning $91.9 million worldwide. It’s also not yet in profitable territory since its $15 million budget means that the breakeven point is around $30 million. However, the latest milestone is also a relief for the studio since the movie will almost certainly pᴀss Death of a Unicorn soon to become A24’s highest-grossing horror movie of 2025 so far.

Warfare has made $32 million at the global box office, making it A24’s highest-grossing movie overall in 2025.

Bring Her Back also has strong reviews, which is likely why turnout has been better compared to Opus and Death of a Unicorn. As such, this milestone is a win for A24, partially restoring its horror reputation.
