Sydney Sweeney’s New Apple TV Mystery Thriller Debuts With Middling Rotten Tomatoes Score

Sydney Sweeney has had one of the fastest-growing careers of any actor over the last decade. A big part of that is thanks to HBO, who propped up her career with roles in both Euphoria and The White Lotus. These shows ended up seeing the actor being nominated for two Emmys within the same year, helping catapult her career forward. While her character was only in The White Lotus season 1, she will return to her role of Cᴀssie in Euphoria season 3, which is expected to premiere next year.

Since skyrocketing into fame with these parts, Sweeney has been diversifying her career. At the end of 2023, she made a foray into the movie rom-com universe with her performance in the box-office hit Anyone But You. She followed this up with performances in the religious horror movie Immaculate and the Marvel film Madame Web. Sweeney is slated to have another big year with the releases of movies like Americana and Eden. Now, she is in a streaming movie whose initial Rotten Tomatoes score has just been revealed.

The Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed For Echo Valley

And They Are Mixed

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Echo Valley has been revealed. This drama-thriller features Julianne Moore and Sweeney as a mother-daughter duo. While Kate (Moore) is dealing with her tragedy, her life changes again when her daughter Claire (Sweeney) shows up at her house covered in blood. Learning of the murderous act Claire has committed, Kate goes to great lengths to cover for herself and her daughter. In addition to Moore and Sweeney, the movie also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Fiona Shaw, Albert Jones, and Kyle MacLachlan.

Ahead of the movie’s streaming release, the Rotten Tomatoes for Echo Valley holds a 57% Tomatometer. This score is subject to change, as there are only 14 reviews so far. Furthermore, the movie will not be released on Apple TV+ until June 13. Likewise, it has yet to receive a Popcornmeter score. ScreenRant‘s Mary Kᴀssel gave Echo Valley a 4 out of 10 stars, noting the issues with pacing and uneven character focus. However, the review does praise Moore’s performance alongside the dynamic relationship between the pair.

What This Means For Echo Valley

Sweeney Has Some Strong Projects

Even though Echo Valley‘s Rotten Tomatoes does not quite hold up to some other films in Sweeney’s oeuvre, ultimately the audience will give the final verdict. Many Apple TV+ movies have turned out to be streaming successes, especially with the case of The Gorge and The Fountain of Youth, both of which were released this year. This has become a key strategy since the streamer began to resort to streaming exclusive releases, after previously putting up some movies in theaters in previous years. Since murder mysteries tend to do well with audiences, the upcoming movie may likely see similar success.
