Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Candid About How Stephen King’s Running Man Remake Can Improve From The 1987 Original

Stephen King’s The Running Man is getting another movie adaptation in 2025, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is already talking about it. Schwarzenegger was the star of the first adaptation of The Running Man, which was released in 1987. Schwarzenegger has no involvement with the upcoming The Running Man remake, directed by Edgar Wright, but he is already getting his thoughts about the latest Stephen King adaptation into the world.

Speaking to CBR, Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged the flaws with the original The Running Man, saying that “It could have been better.” However, he also expressed that the upcoming The Running Man remake has a lot of potential, and that it could be better than the version he starred in. He cites technology and not being prepared enough as reasons why the 1987 film wasn’t the best, although he hopes that the 2025 version doesn’t run into these problems. Check out Arnold Schwarzenegger’s full comments:

“I mean, I love the idea that they’re doing a sequel to Running Man, or a remake. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but I mean, because I always felt when we did, Running Man was one of the movies that it did, that it felt like, I think it would have been great if we would have been better prepared for this movie, if we would have had more money for this movie, and if we would have had then… the visual effects, the technology of visual effects, that they have today, all of those things I wished after the movie came out, I felt like it could have been better.”

“It was great, but it could have been better, and I think that they have a good chance now with the new Running Man to make it better. And I hope, for their sake and for my sake, I hope that they will be successful.”

What Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Comments Mean For 2025’s The Running Man

The Remake Could Learn From The Original’s Mistakes

The fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger is acknowledging the flaws with the original The Running Man is a good thing, boding well for the remake. If the star of the original film recognizes the issues that it had, then it is likely that many other individuals involved with the original’s production do as well. This could include figures who have a lot of influence over the remake, such as Stephen King.

If people involved with 2025’s The Running Man do recognize the issues with the original, then it could mean that the remake will learn from the mistakes of the 1987 movie. This could lead to a much better adaptation of The Running Man, as the filmmakers now know what worked and what didn’t work with the original.

Our Take On Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Running Man Comments

It Isn’t Often That A Star Agrees With Criticisms Of Their Own Movie

It is incredibly interesting to see the star of 1987’s The Running Man candidly express disappointment with his own film, as this isn’t something that happens a lot in Hollywood. Studios are obviously incentivized to have their talent speak positively about their products, and while Schwarzenegger isn’t involved with the upcoming remake, it is still unique to see him talk poorly about the 1987 film. So, while it may not speak much to the quality of the 2025 film, it is good to keep Schwarzenegger’s criticisms in mind when heading into 2025’s The Running Man.
