A Blumhouse smash-hit horror film from 2022 is rocketing up the Netflix charts, just in time for the release of the highly-anticipated sequel. Founded in 2000 by Jason Blum, Blumhouse has produced a myriad of films in its two-and-a-half decades, but the studio has become synonymous with horror thanks to franchises like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge. Besides delivering strong horror films on the regular, Blumhouse can also be counted on to have its fair share of box office hits, as their films tend to have lower budgets and can turn a bigger profit compared to other Hollywood movies.
Now, more than two years after the film’s $181 million box office run, Blumhouse’s M3GAN is working its way up the streaming charts on Netflix. For the week of June 2 through June 8, the tongue-in-cheek horror flick reached number 4 on the overall global chart, while landing in the top 10 in over 20 countries. M3GAN is a streaming smash in many of the Caribbean and Latin American countries, and even peaked at second place in Mexico. The film beat out popular Spanish-language films, as well as streaming stalwarts like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

What M3GAN’s Streaming Success Means For The Franchise
The Sequel Could Become Another Box Office Hit
Considering how many nations are clamoring to re-watch M3GAN, that bodes well for the sequel coming later in June 2025. Not only does it mean that the upcoming M3GAN 2.0 is looking to be a financial success in theaters, but it also proves that Blumhouse’s horror films have tremendous staying power in the age of streaming.
M3GAN 2.0 premieres on June 27, 2025.
While not as financially advantageous, a streaming hit is hard to come by as more and more content is put on platforms each week. With M3GAN still drawing huge audiences, the killer AI doll could stick around for more movies in the future.
Our Take On M3GAN’s Streaming Success
It’s Still One Of Blumhouse’s Best Releases
I’m not surprised that M3GAN is a hit on Netflix, and horror films tend to draw in plenty of curious viewers anyway. Add in the fact that M3GAN is actually a good movie, and Blumhouse has found a recipe for box office and streaming success.
The studio may have produced a lot of box office smashes in its history, but M3GAN is unique because it is a quality work with clear franchise potential. The oddball direction of M3GAN 2.0 is exactly what the franchise needs, and Blumhouse may be leaning into the character’s meme potential.
