DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn gets candid with fans who still want to see Robert Pattinson’s version of the Caped Crusader from The Batman to be part of the DC Universe. While the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” is just getting started, the Dark Knight has been a H๏τ topic of discussion among fans, as DC Studios is looking to introduce its own version of Batman. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 movie remains in active development, and there are still many who are hoping to see Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne somehow join the DCU.
Recently on Threads, a fan replied to Gunn with a link to an article about why Pattinson’s Batman should be integrated into the DCU franchise. The user also added, “Please have a look at this article James. Internet is buzzing with this topic! All of us DC fans want this. (And I think you too),” which led to Gunn giving the following response:
While keeping it short and sweet, Gunn stated, “All” would seem to be pushing it,” with several fans in the comments agreeing with his response. At the time of this article’s publication, The Batman 2 is eying a production start at the end of 2025, while The Brave and The Bold movie is still being written.
What James Gunn’s Response Means For The DCU’s Batman & Robert Pattinson’s Franchise
While it is understandable why some fans would find it exciting to see him in the franchise, there are many reasons why it doesn’t make sense for Pattinson’s Batman to join the DCU, hence Gunn’s response. Through Creature Commandos, it has already been made clear that the Batman of this world is further along in his journey than Pattinson’s counterpart, as the actor’s incarnation in Reeves’ franchise is only a few years into his crusade. The Brave and The Bold movie is also set to focus on Batman exploring his life as a father, with an established Bat-Family already active in this continuity.
But with Gunn’s point, it’s clear to take into account that just because there are some DC fans who want this to happen, it doesn’t represent the majority of the fans who are following the respective franchises. In the end, it’s only a small section who are making their wishes heard, while not considering the factors of what these two distinct universes have set up for their versions of Batman. That is why it is better for The Brave and The Bold movie to remain focused on what they are setting up, while allowing The Batman 2 to remain in its Elseworlds-based universe.
Our Take On James Gunn’s Batman Comments
Not only did Gunn give the perfect response to the Pattinson demand, it serves as a reminder that no matter how many rumors keep emerging about The Batman 2 either not going forward or DC Studios thinking of merging the two franchises, it will never happen. While a star has yet to be cast for The Brave and The Bold, it will be interesting to see what actors will be up for casting as the DCU’s Batman when the time comes around. Hopefully, exciting updates on both Batman in the DCU and Pattinson’s The Batman 2 will emerge in the coming months.
