Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Lead A Tense Search For Millions Of Dollars In The First Footage For Netflix’s The Rip

Netflix has revealed the first look at Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s new movie, The Rip. The longtime friends have collaborated on a number of projects over the years, including Good Will Hunting, The Last Duel, and Air. Expected to early next year, The Rip is directed by Joe Carnahan. The movie will be a martial arts crime film that focuses on Miami cops who uncover a secret stash of millions of dollars in cash, which leads them to a series of events as they distrust outsiders.

As part of Netflix’s major TUDUM event, the streamer shared the first bit of footage from The Rip, which will be released on January 16, 2026. The scene opens with the leading duo looking through a woman’s house. This search becomes the catalyst for the rest of the trailer, as they discover the hiding spot for millions of dollars. Now, the police officers must face this cash and figure out what to do with it. ScreenRant was on the ground at TUDUM, and the full trailer description can be found below:

Affleck and Damon lead a search of a woman’s (Sasha Calle) house, which has become the hiding spot of a great deal of money – millions upon millions, in fact. Upon discovering the hefty sum, the team of police officers find themselves feeling the pressure of what to do with it, with suspicions rising on all sides.

What This Means For The Rip

Sasha Calle’s Character Is Involved With The Money Somehow

Sasha Calle had a minor role in The Flash

The woman in this footage is identified as actor Sasha Calle, who is one of the supporting performers in The Rip. In addition to Calle, those joining Affleck and Damon in the Carnahan-helmed film include Steven Yeun, Scott Adkins, Kyle Chandler, Nestor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Teyana Taylor. The full character descriptions for these cast members have not been revealed, but it is clear from this footage description that Calle’s role will be closely connected to the money. Affleck and Damon will be key members of the Miami cop team at the film’s core.

The description confirms that a major aspect of The Rip‘s plot could involve characters becoming suspicious of one another, doubting how well they can trust others. A case of that much money would certainly baffle the cops, and in this case it seems to lead the team to trust issues more than anything else. The conflicting lines of trust will be key to understanding the character dynamics in the film, and could certainly lead to some interesting interactions.

Our Take On The Rip Footage Reveal

This Is An Exciting Return For Affleck And Damon

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Air

The Rip footage instills me with confidence that this movie will be a good return for Damon and Affleck. While they have collaborated on multiple projects over the years, they have not acted together in a drug and crime-based drama quite like this one. Air, for example, was more of a conventional biographical drama, whereas something like The Last Duel was a costume drama. The Rip will allow the pair to engage more with the crime genre, which will be an interesting way for them to re-team on the big screen.
