28 Years Later’s Infected Change Sets Up The Sequel To Be Even Scarier Than The Original Movie

From what I’ve seen of the infected in 28 Years Later, I have no doubt that the film will be scarier than the last two movies in the franchise. As the тιтle implies, the upcoming 28 Years Later takes place three decades after the Rage Virus spread throughout the United Kingdom. While the rest of the world has seemingly managed to either avoid being exposed to the Rage Virus or contain it, the United Kingdom has been haunted by infected for many, many years.

28 Years Later’s characters have likely had many encounters with the infected over the years, but it seems like the zombie-like creatures have evolved since the first two movies. Therefore, the infected in 28 Years Later will be much different from how they were portrayed in both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. This was a smart decision by the creative team of the new movie, since the infected will still be able to scare audiences in unexpected ways. Therefore, I think 28 Years Later could be much scarier than the first two movies in the zombie franchise.

28 Years Later’s Infected Look Stronger & Smarter Than Ever

28 Years Later Will Star A New Era For The Franchise, And The Movie’s Infected Reflect That

Based on the trailers for 28 Years Later, it is clear that the infected will be terrifying in the upcoming film. This was already the case in 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s 28 Weeks Later, which saw the infected kill many major characters. Compared to some other zombie franchises, the infected seen in these movies are so scary because they truly seem full of rage (which makes the Rage Virus a fitting name) and won’t hesitate to sprint full speed at survivors.

Because of this, it would be incredibly hard to survive in the zombie-infested United Kingdom seen in 28 Years Later and the franchise’s other movies. Ahead of the release of the third movie in the franchise, it seems like the infected have evolved over the years. Since 28 Years Later will take place almost three decades after the last movie in the series, this makes sense. Unfortunately for the movie’s characters, the infected will be stronger and smarter than ever in 28 Years Later.

One sH๏τ in the trailer reveals a zombie that looks larger than any previously seen in the franchise. This specific zombie and possibly ones like it will definitely pose a major threat. Only a close-up sH๏τ of this zombie is shown, but it proves that different kinds of infected will be showcased in 28 Years Later. Additionally, the trailers also prove that the infected have gotten smarter over the years, choosing to stalk their prey rather than just sprinting directly at them. Therefore, based on these examples, it is clear that the infected in 28 Years Later will be terrifying.

It Makes Sense That 28 Years Later’s Infected Would Be Even More Dangerous

28 Years Later Will Raise The Stakes Of The Franchise

28 Years Later’s trailers have done an exceptional job of teasing the story of the new trilogy without giving away too much. Based on the trailers, it is clear that the survivors have gotten used to living in a country that is overrun with infected. However, just because they have survived for so long doesn’t mean that they can easily deal with the infected. Other popular zombie franchises like The Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ and The Last of Us showcase how characters confidently kill the infected years into the apocalypse, but this doesn’t seem to be the case in 28 Years Later.

This is a refreshing change for the genre, and making the infected more dangerous than ever will ensure that 28 Years Later will be just as scary, if not more scary, than the first two movies. Since 28 Years Later’s outbreak is just contained to the United Kingdom, the infected likely would have been dealt with a long time ago if they weren’t evolving and getting smarter. Therefore, this kind of evolution makes sense on a story level. Additionally, since 28 Years Later is a long-awaited sequel, it is not surprising that it will raise the stakes of the franchise.
