Zootopia 2’s Impressively Unique Trailer Has Every Ecosystem After Judy, Nick & Ke Huy Quan’s New Snake

The trailer for Zootopia 2 has been revealed, and it’s unique. Zootopia, which was released in 2016, tells the story of a rabbit police officer named Judy Hopps who has to work together with a con artist fox, Nick, to uncover a conspiracy. The movie featured a star-studded voice cast including Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Jenny Slate, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Shakira, Octavia Spencer, and Alan Tudyk. It did very well in theaters, making over $1 billion. Since then, Zooptopia 2 has been confirmed and is set for release later this year.

Now, Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed the trailer for Zootopia 2.

The trailer includes no dialogue, opening with a trio of hamsters playing the electric keyboard. This beat serves as the underscore for the entire teaser, which reintroduces leads Judy and Nick, while also introducing a new character, played by a snake. Accompanied by their new slithering friend, Judy and Nick go on journeys through multiple ecosystems, all the while being chased by rhinoceros police.

What This Means For Zootopia 2

The Sequel Will Cross New Terrain, Literally

The teaser provides the first full introduction to the snake character. This role, named Gary, will be voiced by Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan. Because the trailer is wordless, audiences do not get to hear what Quan sounds like in the role, but Gary’s fang-filled facial expressions seem unique and charismatic, creating great potential for the part. It will also be the actor’s second animated voice acting role in recent years since he also played a part in Kung Fu Panda 4.

Another intriguing element of the Zootopia 2 trailer is the travel through multiple ecosystems. While the first film sees characters occasionally venture outside the Zootopia city limits, this trailer suggests a worldwide adventure. With this globetrotting comes a vast array of animal types, adding to the biodiversity of the sequel. These adventures have the potential to create interesting plot webs as well as new animation opportunities as the Disney team models new species on screen.

Our Take On The Zootopia 2 Teaser

I’m So Much More Excited About This Movie Now

The Zootopia 2 teaser trailer is pretty unique, making me more excited about the upcoming movie. The original 2016 film got a lot of its strength out of being an original concept, but a sequel could risk losing that spark. The dialogue-free, high-energy trailer quashes any worry I had that Zootopia 2 might lack the same pizzazz as the original. Rather, it punches things up and seems to offer a great role for Quan, whose character is heavily focused on in the trailer.

Zootopia 2 is set for release in theaters on November 26, 2025.
