New Predator Movie Is Tripling Down On Badlands’ Most Divisive Yautja Element

Predator: Killer of Killers has just released a new trailer, proving that it is tripling down on the most divisive element of Predator: Badlands. Although Predator: Badlands is the next live-action Predator movie that will be released, fans of the franchise will be treated to Predator: Killer of Killers first. The animated anthology film will follow three different Predator stories set in three different time periods, capitalizing on the success of Prey. So, while it is a separate story from Predator: Badlands, the animated movie is using one of its most divisive changes.

Predator: Badlands is unlike any of the other films in the franchise, as it will follow a Predator protagonist named Dek. While some fans love this idea, it has been incredibly controversial, as Dek looks far different from the other Predators. Previously, each of the Predators looked incredibly similar, with the alien from Prey being the only real exception. Dek looks even more different, however. Dek’s proportions are more humanoid, his face is smaller, and his hairstyle is different. While these changes are probably meant to humanize Dek, they have divided the Predator fanbase.

Predator: Killer Of Killers Has 3 Yautjas That All Look Very Different From The Others

And That Is A Good Thing

Dek isn’t the only Predator that has a wildly different design, as all three Yautjas from Predator: Killer of Killers look very different from the others. The three Predators all look visually distinct from one another, with them having attributes that allow them to fit into their respective time periods. They also have drastic changes from the original Predator design, while still looking more alien than Dek.

Interestingly, Predator: Killer of Killers hasn’t been subject to the same outcry that Predator: Badlands‘ changes have. This could be due to the anthology film being animated. The stylized animation could make fans more forgiving of a stylized character design. These more exaggerated proportions could stand out less, while Dek being in live-action means that he clearly looks different than his Yautja predecessors.

How Predator: Killer Of Killers’ Yautjas Compare To Earlier Versions Of The Alien

Each One Has Differences

Each of the Yautjas from Predator: Killer of Killers looks different than the original Predator, although in their own unique ways. Firstly, the Predator from the Viking story. This Predator is much bulkier, mimicking the bulky Vikings that it will fight. It also isn’t seen wearing a mask or a shirt. A large shield is one of its primary weapons, with its tech being less advanced than some of the later Yautjas.

While the Viking Predator is bulkier, the Predator from the samurai story has the opposite change. This Yautja is much slimmer, allowing him to be more acrobatic and aerial. This one has a unique mask and layered, metal armor. It also has a variety of new weapons, differing from the Viking Predator’s melee fighting style.

The final Predator from Predator: Killer of Killers is the one from the fighter pilot storyline. This Yautja is the most different. It seems to be wearing some sort of metal eyepatch alongside its mask. It also has less armor on, probably because it does most of its fighting from its ship. It also seems to be bald, which is a mᴀssive departure from previous iterations of the Yautja. All three of these aliens are incredibly visually distinct, continuing the trend seen with Prey and Predator: Badlands.

Killer Of Killers & Badlands Changing The Predators’ Looks Is For The Best

In Both Upcoming Predator Movies

While it may be controversial, future Predator movies changing the designs of the тιтular aliens is the best option. Allowing the Yautja to stand out from each other will give each alien (as well as each film) more character. Seeing the Yautja evolve alongside humanity will be a fun way to add lore to the Predator franchise, as having them use the same technology in every film would get stale. Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands prove how much fun these design changes can be, and hopefully they will continue in the future.
