Jack Sparrow Isn’t The Returning Character Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Needs The Most

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been a long time coming, especially since the post-credits scene of the fifth Pirates film set up the return of the franchise’s iconic villain, Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). It’s been almost a decade since the release of the fifth installment, which has raised the question of whether the popular film franchise will make a comeback with a sixth movie, with or without Jack Sparrow.

Jack Sparrow has been a popular mainstay of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, particularly thanks to actor Johnny Depp. Despite that, Davy Jones may actually be what a possible sixth film needs most to bring the franchise back from development hell. Thanks to the groundwork laid in ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Men Tell No Tales, the sequel has what it needs to bring the Flying Dutchman’s original captain back to wreak havoc on the Seven Seas.

Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Should Bring Back Davy Jones

Davy Jones Is The Best Villain For Pirates Of The Caribbean 6

Davy Jones’s return from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ was teased at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Men Tell No Tales. The franchise’s fifth film featured a post-credits scene in which Davy Jones attacked Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) in his sleep. The latter woke up, quickly brushing off Jones’s appearance as a nightmare. However, the film shows barnacles being left in Will and Elizabeth’s (Keira Knightley) room, implying that Jones is actually there.

While Will’s vision of Davy Jones may have just been a bad dream, the possibility that the dreaded villain has returned is too exciting to pᴀss up now.

While Will’s vision of Davy Jones may have just been a bad dream, the possibility that the dreaded villain has returned is too exciting to pᴀss up now. It is clear that Disney has some big plans for Davy Jones’s character after ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Men Tell No Tales. Though the film wasn’t as well-received as Disney had hoped, it has the potential to produce something truly spectacular by setting up his resurrection.

Davy Jones Returning For Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Is More Exciting Than Jack Sparrow Coming Back

Davy Jones Is The Best Character To Return To The Franchise

Jack Sparrow has long been the most popular character in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. However, as the Grim Reaper of the Seven Seas, Davy Jones is the franchise’s best villain. His tragic character is fearsome, layered, and compelling, and his frightening design was a groundbreaking achievement of CGI at the time of his 2006 debut. He was also the only villain in the franchise to succeed in killing Jack Sparrow.

Meanwhile, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have leaned too heavily on Jack Sparrow for success, pushing characters like Will and Elizabeth into the background. This has contributed to the franchise’s critical decline following At World’s End. After Depp was let go from the franchise due to his legal issues with Amber Heard, it is unknown if Disney will try to get him back for another film, or if he even wants to reprise his role.

How Davy Jones Could Return In Pirates Of The Caribbean 6

Davy Jones May Have Been Brought Back Because Of Henry Turner

Since Davy Jones was killed in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the question of how he could return remains a glaring question. However, the fifth film ended with Henry Turner destroying the Trident of Poseidon, breaking all curses across the Seven Seas. While this allowed Henry’s father, Will, to break free from his duty as the captain of the Flying Dutchman, it may have also caused Davy Jones to come back from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

It has been established in the films that the Flying Dutchman needs a captain to guide the souls of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ to the afterlife. Though Will was finally free of his duties, the Dutchman was missing one crucial crew member. As a result, it is possible that Davy Jones was brought back to life by the goddess Calypso to fill the void left by Will.

Overall, even without Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean 6‘s story could be perfect with Davy Jones’s return. The latter is a sight to behold on screen thanks to his visual effects, his destructive power, and his frightening but sympathetic character. His character is also the perfect foil to Will Turner, who could have a proper spotlight in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 as the story’s main protagonist. Though Jack Sparrow is a fantastic character, he’s arguably overstayed his welcome, and the franchise needs much more of Davy Jones.
