“Couldn’t Stop Crying Until The Credits Were Over”: Hideo Kojima Gives Glowing Reviews To Two Great, Underseen 2024 Movies

Famed video game designer Hideo Kojima has shared rave reviews of the 2024 movies Better Man and Caddo Lake with his millions of social media followers. The video game designer behind Konami’s seminal Metal Gear franchise posted his thoughts on the movies to his 3.9 million followers on X after watching them both on a long-haul flight.

Kojima described how Better Man, a biopic of British pop star Robbie Williams, “brought back memories” of his childhood. Meanwhile, he was captivated by the time-travel aspect of Caddo Lake, a nature-themed thriller produced by M. Night Shyamalan. Both movies received little attention when they were released in 2024, with Better Man bombing at the box office and Caddo Lake going relatively unnoticed upon its streaming release on Max. Receiving public praise from such a high-profile figure in the entertainment industry brings them the kind of attention they’ve otherwise lacked over the past year.

Better Man Moved Hideo Kojima To Tears, & He Found Caddo Lake “Really Intriguing”

The Video Game Auteur Highly Recommends Both 2024 Movies

The Robbie Williams biopic Better Man has received plenty of critical acclaim since its release, but hasn’t been as much of a hit with audiences outside the film industry. It certainly made an impression on Hideo Kojima, though, as the video game auteur was reduced to tears by Better Man’s ending scene. He explained the special significance of this scene for him, by recounting the story of his own graduation from junior high on X:

“At my junior high graduation event way back, just like in the film, I sang “MY WAY” solo on stage in the auditorium – me for the first verse, [my classmate] Tatsuo for the second. Then the whole class joined in for the chorus. It brought back memories of my late father too. So many things came flooding back, and I couldn’t stop crying until the end credits were over.”

While Kojima found watching Better Man to be a particularly emotional experience, he describes Celine Held and Logan George’s thriller movie Caddo Lake as “really intriguing”. He seems to have been especially taken by the way the film involves time travel in its plot, and suggested it should be released in his home country, Japan. Kojima finished his X post by stating simply, “Highly recommend”, and sharing promoting images for both Better Man and Caddo Lake.

Our Take On Hideo Kojima’s Reviews Of Better Man & Caddo Lake

Kojima’s Widely Shared Remarks Bring These 2 Movies Much-Deserved Attention

Hideo Kojima’s reflections on Better Man and Caddo Lake have garnered close to a million views on X, have been liked over 29,000 times, and shared more than 2,300 times. His comments bring much-needed exposure to two movies that deserve a bigger audience than they’ve had since their releases in late 2024. Better Man and Caddo Lake are very different films, but they were both overlooked last year in favor of releases featuring bigger names or more fashionable selling points.

Kojima’s ᴀssessment of Better Man is likely to have more of an impact on his following in Japan, where Robbie Williams is a major pop star, than in the US, where the British singer is still relatively unknown. On the other hand, he’s drawn the attention of sci-fi fans around the world to one of 2024’s best unsung thrillers, in Caddo Lake. Kojima’s reference to M. Night Shyamalan will also have piqued the interest of movie-lovers who were otherwise unmoved by Caddo Lake’s relatively unknown cast and crew.
