One Superman scene might recreate one of the best action sequences in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Marketing for James Gunn’s Superman has entered its peak stage, with the final two-month countdown to the DCU’s first film now underway. Thanks to Superman‘s new trailers, new details continue to emerge, including the confirmation of Ultraman’s name and a glimpse at the Engineer’s powers. At the same time, new mysteries arise, such as the origins of the giant kaiju seen in the trailers and the Hammer of Boravia’s true idenтιтy.
While Superman’s character-packed story remains largely under wraps, key story elements can be pieced together from the trailers. Superman appears to face backlash for stepping into national and international conflicts. Undeterred, Superman continues to take matters into his own hands, only to be targeted by characters whose interests are in conflict with Superman’s heroism, like Lex Luthor and Rick Flag Jr. After breaking free, Superman will likely prove why a true hero should prioritize saving lives above all else. Yet, James Gunn’s Superman still holds many surprises for audiences.
Superman’s New Trailer Promises An Interesting Interaction With The DC Hero & Metamorpho
Superman And Metamorpho Will Likely Break Out Of Lex Luthor’s Prison
The new Superman trailer includes a few sH๏τs that offer a new glimpse of Anthony Carrigan’s shapeshifting Metamorpho, who appears to be imprisoned in a glᴀss cell. Superman is eventually captured by Rick Flag Jr., the Engineer, and Ultraman, and he’s later sent to the same prison as Metamorpho. At some point in the movie, Superman appears to break the cell and escape, presumably with Metamorpho. The fact that Metamorpho doesn’t appear alongside Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific suggests the shapeshifting hero will be held prisoner for most of Superman‘s screentime.
The Superman Trailer Teases The DCU Movie Mirroring A Major Guardians Of The Galaxy Scene
Superman And Metamorpho Might Recreate The Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Prison Escape Scene
In James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy, the тιтular team ᴀssembles for the first time after the Xandarian Nova Corps arrest them and imprison them in a high-security prison. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot agree to work together to escape, and they craft a quick plan to break out unscathed. Groot’s curiosity forces the Guardians to start their plan early, but they successfully disable the prison’s artificial gravity and flee aboard Star-Lord’s ship. Following their escape from the “Kyln,” the Guardians of the Galaxy form a family bond that lasts for over a decade.
The trailers for James Gunn’s Superman have only delineated the basis for a prison breakout sequence, but they already suggest Superman will present another action sequence on the same level as The Guardians of the Galaxy‘s first team-up scene. Another sH๏τ in the Superman trailer features Lois Lane seemingly arriving with Mister Terrific in the same prison, and another sH๏τ shows the Hammer of Boravia doing the same. A different sH๏τ appears to show Superman fighting the Hammer of Boravia inside the prison, followed by Metamorpho using or losing his powers some time before that.
I’m Convinced A Metamorpho & Superman Jail Break Would Be Perfect For The DCU Movie
A Prison Breakout Scene Would Put Superman And Metamorpho’s Powers In Full Display
Superman and the Justice Gang will have an interesting dynamic in James Gunn’s Superman, where they seem to ʙuтт heads over their approach to crime-fighting but eventually team up to fight the Engineer and Ultraman. Metamorpho only appears in the prison scene according to the Superman trailers, which suggests that he will have a different dynamic with Superman. Similarly to The Guardians of the Galaxy, Metamorpho, Superman, Lois Lane, and Mister Terrific might form a rushed team inside the prison and bond over their struggle to escape.
Befriending Metamorpho could be key for the Man of Steel’s future DCU stories, as Superman might get Mister Terrific’s Justice Gang on his side and build the foundations for a larger superhero team that doesn’t conform to corporate interests. Metamorpho and Superman’s escape from prison might be what makes Lex Luthor so mad in the Superman trailers, and it could frustrate Luthor to the point of obsession. It would also reinforce the theme of freedom displayed in the trailer and reinforce Superman’s role as the hero of heroes.
