Marvel Already Revealed What 3 New York MCU Characters Would’ve Seen In The Void In Thunderbolts*

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Thunderbolts*.Despite their absence in Thunderbolts*, three major MCU characters have already experienced the effects of the Void on screen. The MCU’s Thunderbolts face one of the franchise’s most powerful threats in the form of Sentry and the Void, whose power is so immense that no character is able to land a single punch on them. The Void doesn’t harm its targets physically. Instead, it traps them in their own traumatic memories and forces them to repeat them forever.

Fortunately for the MCU’s Earth, the Thunderbolts find a way to stop the Void and prevent Robert Reynolds from awakening the dark enтιтy afterward. Fourteen months later, by the time Thunderbolts*‘ post-credits scene matches up with Avengers: Doomsday, Bob is unable to use both his Sentry and his Void powers, though the Void might find its way back eventually. At this point, how other NYC characters reacted to the Void is still a mystery, but it’s almost a given that some of them were captured by the Void for a brief moment during Thunderbolts*‘ third act.

Spider-Man: Far From Home Already Showed What Spider-Man Would See In The Void

Mysterio Tormented Peter Parker With His Biggest Fears And Regrets

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker steps right into Mysterio’s trap. Using his VFX team’s artistry and the Stark Technology he stole from Peter, Quentin Beck lures Spider-Man into a chain of illusions that conjure scenarios like MJ’s death, Iron Man’s resurrection as a zombie, the death of the Avengers, and Mysterio’s victory. Mysterio teased Spider-Man for failing to save Tony Stark and failing to balance his superhero duties with his regular life, representing Peter’s struggle as the dozens of Spider-Men and the environment itself attack Spidey.

Mysterio’s illusions are extremely similar to the Void’s powers, down to the aggressive clones attacking the heroes. If Spider-Man entered the Void in Thunderbolts*‘ final battle, he would likely revisit Uncle Ben and Aunt May’s deaths, Thanos’ Snap, Iron Man’s sacrifice, and Mysterio’s reveal of his secret idenтιтy. Spider-Man would likely be haunted by the illusion of a coordinated attack by all his villains, as well as MJ and Ned not recognizing him. Unlike Mysterio’s illusions, however, Spider-Man would be stuck inside the Void indefinitely.

Echo Already Showed What Wilson Fisk Would See In The Void

Wilson Fisk’s Childhood Memory Haunts Him More Than He Cares To Admit

In the Echo finale, Maya Lopez confronts her uncle using her newfound mystical powers. Instead of fighting him, Maya taps into Wilson Fisk’s deepest memories and forces him to confront his trauma. Fisk is unable to escape or ignore his own emotional pain as he relives memories such as hearing his father mistreat his mother, killing his own father with a hammer, and murdering an ice cream vendor in front of a young Maya Lopez. Fisk is visibly distressed by the experience, as he scrambles to run away without retaliation.

If Wilson Fisk entered the Void in Thunderbolts*‘ ending, he would likely experience the exact same regression. The Echo finale suggests Fisk’s anger only conceals his regret and grief over his traumatic childhood experiences, meaning that he would be unable to come to terms with it inside the Void. Fisk’s flashback to the ice cream vendor’s murder also suggests he wouldn’t be able to maintain his facade of apathy if confronted with all the people he has killed inside the Void. Out of all New York characters, Fisk would be the least likely to find a way out of the Void.

Multiverse Of Madness Already Showed What Doctor Strange Would See In The Void

Doctor Strange’s Biggest Fear Is Failure To Lose Control And Fulfill His Duty

In Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange gets to meet a variant of himself who gave in to the Darkhold’s dark magic, which led him to doom his entire universe to collapse. Prime Doctor Strange also visits Earth-838, where a more heroic Strange resorted to the Darkhold to defeat Thanos, leading the Illuminati to kill him before his strategy damaged their timeline. On the other side of the spectrum, Defender Strange refused to save America Chavez, which led to his own death at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness served as a full-length display of Strange’s worst fears.

Strange’s rooms inside the Void could torment him with more scenarios where his failure dooms his loved ones, his universe, or the entire multiverse

Doctor Strange is one of the few MCU heroes smart and powerful enough to have a chance at escaping and defeating the Void without the Thunderbolts‘ help. Still, Strange would have a hard time facing his own fears and regrets inside the Void. Just like Christine Palmer tells him in his Phase 4 sequel, Strange’s fear lies in not maintaining full control. Hence, Strange’s rooms inside the Void could torment him with more scenarios where his failure dooms his loved ones, his universe, or the entire multiverse. Others could also strip him of his powers and send him back to his car accident and his time in the hospital.
