Get An Exclusive Look At Paul Walter Hauser In His New Crime Movie, Americana, Costarring Sydney Sweeney And Halsey

This article is part of ScreenRant‘s Exclusive Summer 2025 Movie Preview. Keep an eye out for the full feature this week!

ScreenRant can exclusively reveal a new image from Americana. The upcoming multi-genre movie centers around a group of people whose lives unexpectedly intertwine when a rare Lakota Ghost t-shirt falls onto the black market in a tiny South Dakota town. The movie was written and directed by Tony Tost. The Americana cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, Sydney Sweeney, Eric Dane, Halsey, Simon Rex, Toby Huss, Zahn McClarnon, Harriet Sansom Harris, Derek Hinkey, Joe Adler, and Tost himself.

As part of the Exclusive Summer 2025 Movie Preview, ScreenRant can exclusively reveal a new image from Americana. The image shows Hauser sitting in a truck, wearing a cowboy hat. He clutches the steering wheel and looks off to the side, seemingly suspicious. He is the only one in the sH๏τ, so it is unclear what he is looking at. Check out the image below:

In addition, ScreenRant was able to speak with writer-director Tost. The director mentioned that he “wanted to return to the kinds of stories that made [him] fall in love with the movies in the first place,” which meant Westerns, ’90s independent films, and ’70s drive-in movies. While he wanted to recall this nostalgia, the filmmaker also wanted to provide a “fresh perspective on the Western genre.” Check out the full quote from Tost below:

In making Americana, I wanted to return to the kinds of stories that made me fall in love with the movies in the first place. That mostly means Westerns, ’70s drive-in movies, and independent films from the ’90s. My hope is that our movie can bring those types of old school pleasures while also providing a fresh perspective on the Western genre and some unexpected surprises along the way. I also think people will really enjoy seeing our great ensemble cast tackling roles they haven’t exactly done before.

What This Means For Americana

The Movie Is Finally Releasing This Summer

The journey to Americana‘s release has been a long process. The film first premiered at the SXSW film festival in 2023, where it received a positive reception. The reviews available have granted this film a 100% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. It was not until a year after its film festival premiere that Americana was procured for distribution by Lionsgate in March 2024. After securing the rights to the film, the studio put it on its release calendar, and it is now set to come out on August 22, 2025.

Although there has yet to be a full trailer, BRON Studios did release a clip from the movie two years ago. It seemed to hint that Hauser and Sweeney’s characters know each other and are after the artifact, which is in Halsey’s possession. While it eventually leads to a race on the road, there is no further context about the characters and plot. However, with the release listed for the end of summer, a full trailer may come to fruition soon.

Our Take On The Americana Image & Quote

The Cast Is Its Most Intriguing Element

The Americana image provides an exciting tease at what might be to come in the film. Hauser’s character is possibly waiting on his partner, especially since it seems that they are one of few people looking for the rare artifact. However, what makes the movie intriguing is that it’s genre-blending, and the talented cast is certainly up for the task of bringing in both drama and comedy. It also serves as a mini Euphoria cast reunion between Sweeney and Dane, and it is also a good chance for pop star Halsey to continue her acting career after MaXXXine.
