How Angela Bᴀssett’s Sloane Became President Before Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning & Why She Places Such Trust In Ethan Explained By Star

Angela Bᴀssett addresses how Erika Sloane went from the CIA to being the President of the United States in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Bᴀssett’s character was a major player in 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout as a former director of the CIA. Last seen succeeding Alan Hunley as the Secretary of IMF, Sloane was notably missing from the cast of Mission: Impossible – ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Reckoning. However, the new trailer has confirmed her return in the upcoming Tom Cruise-headlined movie.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Bᴀssett explains how Sloane became the President in the eighth Mission: Impossible movie. She shares that Erika Sloane, who has “met everybody” and has the “perspective of protecting the US from the outside,” has a very “good skillset.” With the movie’s plot dealing with a bigger conspiracy in a government agency, she teased that Sloane might be Ethan’s only chance at survival. Read her comments below:

I think that was a great experience for her to have that perspective of protecting the US from the outside. I think that’s a good skillset for her to have in her tool belt. She’s met everybody. She’s watched plenty from afar and observed. She’s discerning, I’m sure, and she had a great run. She was trusted. You can take her at face value and believe what she says.

I would say she’s extraordinarily confident that he’s the only possibility, and the best possibility that we have. She’s put in a great deal of hope that it will come through. But, yeah, it’s a mixture. I don’t know. I was nervous watching it. I’m saying, “I hope she’s right!”

What Angela Bᴀssett’s Comment Means For Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Sloane Has A Big Role To Play In Mission: Impossible 8

The Final Reckoning‘s trailer features a surprising upgrade for Bᴀssett’s character, implying that she has become the President of the United States in the new Tom Cruise movie, which means a lot has happened between Fallout and The Final Reckoning. However, with the trailer being very focused on the challenges Ethan has at hand, the new movie may not fully answer the questions fans have about Sloane. Nevertheless, she will be important to Ethan’s story.

Bᴀssett’s comments also strongly suggest that Sloane will play a crucial and possibly unexpected role in The Final Reckoning‘s plot, which sees Ethan being hunted as a target, where he has to survive impossible situations, which is how the movie’s over-the-top stunts will be incorporated. The trailer only offered a glimpse of Bᴀssett’s character, leaving most of Sloane’s upcoming story a mystery. It’s safe to say that the journey of Sloane’s character in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has not been spoiled and will be an integral part of the story.

Our Take On Angela Bᴀssett’s Comments

Fans Have A Lot To Discover In Theaters

Tom Cruise, Greg Tarzan Davis, Simon Pegg, and Hayley Atwell stand together in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

The trailer has set the bar very high with a larger-than-life premise and explosive scenes, but the movie has far more in store than what’s being featured in the preview, and that includes Sloane’s role. Bᴀssett’s comments about taking Sloane at face value make her upcoming role even more intriguing. That intrigue is further heightened by the first reactions, which already see the new Tom Cruise movie receiving high praise for its exhilarating action sequences and high-quality production. Coming to theaters on May 23, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is a movie not to miss this summer.
