Vince Vaughn’s New Comedy Movie With 81% RT Score Becomes Netflix Global Hit Just Days After Release

Vince Vaughn has been working in the industry for over three decades, but in the mid to late ’90s, his career really took off. He made his feature film debut playing a supporting character in the underdog sports film Rudy. From there, he became better known in the comedy genre for his role in the 1996 movie Swingers. Vaughn then acted in a series of other comedies throughout the end of that decade and the early 2000s, including Zoolander, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, and more.

Since his debut, Vaughn’s career has had some genre fluctuations over the years. While he still does comedy, the 2010s saw him act in more dramatic work, including Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Seberg. Last year, he swung back to comedy when he had another notable role as the lead in the Apple TV+ crime comedy series Bad Monkey, which was well-received and wound up being renewed for season 2. Now, Vaughn’s more recent comedy role has become a streaming hit.

Nonnas Is A Streaming Hit

It Is The No. 1 Film On Netflix Globally

Nonnas has now become a hit on Netflix. The comedy centers around Joe Scaravella, who loses his mother and then decides to honor her by opening an Italian restaurant. However, instead of a typical setup, the chefs in Joe’s restaurant will be actual grandmothers. In addition to Vaughn, the Nonnas cast features Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Jimmy Smagula, and Adam Ferrara.

Now, Nonnas has officially made it onto the Netflix charts. The film was the no. 1 movie on the platform’s global top 10 chart for English-language films, for the week of May 5 to May 11. To achieve this feat, Nonnas received 15.4 million views and was in the top 10 in 71 countries, including both the United States and Canada. It made the top 10 in at least one country from all the other continents, including Brazil, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Singapore, and Australia.

What This Means For Nonnas

The Movie Got Strong Reviews

Nonnas came out on May 9, giving it only three days to amᴀss views within this data collection period. Even with this limited window, the film persevered, becoming one of the top movies in the world. The movie is partially doing so well viewership-wise because it has been well-received. Nonnas has gotten positive reviews, scoring an 81% Tomatometer. ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns was one of its champions, giving the movie 7 out of 10 stars and praising its cast. If matched by audience enthusiasm, this warm reception may keep Nonnas afloat for a while longer.
