Sinners’ Domestic Box Office Milestone Unlocks Multiple All-Time Charts In Just Three Weeks

Sinners has now officially made it onto multiple all-time box office charts. The horror movie is the fifth feature film from Ryan Coogler, whose previous credits include Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the two Black Panther movies. The genre-bending film infuses historical drama and horror, telling the story of twins Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan), who return to their hometown only to realize that there is evil waiting for them. Sinners features Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Delroy Lindo, and Hailee Steinfeld.

Three weeks into its release, Sinners has now unlocked multiple box office charts. As per The Numbers, the horror movie is now among the top 15 highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time domestically, and in the Warner Bros. top 40. It snuck into the no. 15 slot among the highest-grossing R-rated movies, beating Ted and ranking right below Logan. As for the Warner Bros. list, it just surpᴀssed the top 40 by pᴀssing 2023’s Wonka. Sinners also climbed to the no. 4 spot in the top 5 highest-grossing horror movies of all time domestically.

What This Means For Sinners

Sinners Has Made Unprecedented Strides

In the weeks leading up to its eventual release, reports were suggesting that Sinners was doomed to fail. A Puck report from April 15 indicated that Warner Bros. overestimated the $90 million budget. That fee meant that it would need to make around $300 million to turn a profit, which would be a fairly unprecedented feat for an original, non-franchise, R-rated, horror film.

With the recent all-time chart milestones, however, Sinners has further proven that Warner Bros. made the right call when it came to budgeting this movie. With a $288.7 million gross to date, the film is well on its way to the coveted $300 million mark, a barrier that it will certainly break this weekend if not before. Of the R-rated movies on the charts, many of them are sequels or otherwise part of major IPs. Only three are horror movies: Sinners, It, and The Exorcist.

Our Take On Sinners’ New Box Office Records

Sinners Reviews Have Helped The Movie

Looking at Sinners alongside the other movies on the box office list, it is clear how well word-of-mouth has helped this movie. There was a built-in fan base around successful R-rated тιтles like ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and Logan; Sinners had to earn its reputation. Sinners reviews continue to be overwhelmingly positive, which likely contributes to its staying power. As the movie continues to be shown to audiences, it will be interesting to see if the film’s momentum will allow it to shine come awards season at the end of the year and the beginning of 2026.
