In celebration of 2005’s unforgettable classic, Focus Features and The Langham Huntington in Pasadena are hosting a Pride & Prejudice 20th Anniversary Ball, and ScreenRant is pleased to exclusively announce a featured performance by renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. As a soloist on Dario Marianelli’s beloved original movie score, Thibaudet will bring the Regency era to life through his reprisal of the musical pieces that so moved audiences in theaters.
Marianelli received an Oscar nomination for Pride & Prejudice’s original score, which Thibaudet was instrumental in bringing to life for the film. Now, he will do the same inside a historic The Langham ballroom, playing “Dawn” and other iconic tracks that recall epic moments from the Jane Austen adaptation. In addition to the live music, the ball will host other entertainers and regale guests with immersive elements that help them step into the world of Joe Wright’s 2005 film adaptation.
In a press release, Thibaudet expressed his pleasure: “Dario Marianelli is an extraordinary composer, and his work on Pride & Prejudice is absolutely phenomenal,” the pianist declared.
This score has opened so many doors, not just for me, but for fans around the world. I can’t tell you how many times someone who has never attended a classical music concert before has told me, after a performance, that they came because they recognized my name from Pride & Prejudice! That this film, and this music, brings people so much joy twenty years later is cause for celebration. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this!
Focus Features’ Pride & Prejudice 20th Anniversary Ball Is A Once-In-A-Lifetime Event
Jean-Yves Thibaudet Will Transport Guests To The Ball At Netherfield & Beyond
Jane Austen’s novel has long been hailed as one of the greatest romance novels ever written, and many Pride & Prejudice adaptations have tried to capture its essence. While no consensus can be reached on which is the ultimate winner, Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen’s performances in the 2005 movie have been enshrined in the public consciousness as emblematic of Elizabeth and Darcy. They did not achieve this alone, as Wright’s keen eye for detail ensured that props, costumes, and music all joined forces in creating an enchanting universe in which to watch Austen’s social satire play out.
Focus Features has now made it possible to physically step into that enchanting atmosphere, with tickets to the event now available. Guests are encouraged to attend in period-appropriate attire to achieve the full Austen experience, and everyone knows live music is a must at a ball. Not only will Thibaudet perform some fan-favorite tracks at the ball, but he will also sign limited copies of the score (the newly reissued Decca Classics vinyl edition. The night of music, drinks, and dancing pairs perfectly with the recent theatrical re-release and other official events to honor the movie’s lasting legacy.
The chance to see Thibaudet play in person is also precious, especially for any movie lover of the modern era. After all, Pride & Prejudice is far from the prolific recording artist’s only foray into film scores. The two-time Grammy nominee first recorded music for Jane Campion’s 1996 film The Portrait of a Lady, and he also collaborated with Marianelli a second time on 2007’s Atonement (which did indeed win the Oscar for Best Score that year).
The Pride & Prejudice 20th Anniversary Ball takes place at The Landringham, Pasadena on May 22 from 8 – 11pm. Tickets are available for purchase at EventBrite.
