“Not Where I Want To Be:” Jerry Maguire’s Child Star, Jonathan Lipnicki, Reflects On Movie Career 29 Years After Breakout Role

Jonathan Lipnicki reflects on his career 29 years after his breakout role in Jerry Maguire. Lipnicki played Ray Boyd, the son of Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger), and Ray became close with Tom Cruise’s тιтular character in the 1996 movie. As a child actor, Lipnicki also starred in Stuart Little, The Little Vampire, Like Mike, and Stuart Little 2. He later took a break from acting and more recently appeared in the TBS reality hoax series The Joe Schmo Show.

While speaking with People, Lipnicki reflected on the “really good things that happened when I was younger” while admitting that his career is currently not where he wants it to be. He reveals that he has turned down several movies within the past year. Despite some of the setbacks he has had since his days of being a child actor, Lipnicki remains confident that “the best is yet to come” in his acting career. Check out his comments below:

I had some really good things that happened when I was younger. It’s totally fine to say I’m not where I want to be career-wise.

To be quite honest, I said no to about five movies in the last year. I just really want to turn this ship around. I pray every night for clarity on where I need to go, and I’m confident the best is yet to come for me.

What This Means For Jonathan Lipnicki

He Is Looking For Specific Opportunities Now

Given his starring roles in hit movies like Jerry Maguire and the commercially successful Stuart Little, it was easy to ᴀssume that Lipnicki would continue to book many high-profile roles for years to come. He is fully aware and still grateful for the opportunities he had in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Between the hiatus he took from acting, returning to the entertainment industry in several reality shows, and becoming a mixed martial artist, Lipnicki’s career since Stuart Little has had a different trajectory than expected.

While he is still appearing in reality shows, Lipnicki still wants to return to acting in more mainstream scripted movies and television again, and is optimistic about this happening. His decision to turn down approximately five movies in the past year indicates that he does not want to star in just any movie, though, and that he is looking for specific projects that he is best suited for and that can help his career. With offers still coming in, it may only be a matter of time before he finds a project that is to his liking.

Our Take On Jonathan Lipnicki’s Comments

It Would Be Great To See Him In A Major Movie Or TV Show Now

From the highly quotable Jerry Maguire to one of my childhood favorites, Like Mike, Lipnicki was an actor I always enjoyed seeing in movies from the late 1990s and early 2000s. The decision to take a hiatus is understandable after the experience of being a child star in Hollywood. Given the talent and charm he displayed in his early roles, though, I am glad to hear that he wants to get back into acting at a high level. I hope to see him landing roles that will give him more opportunities to showcase his talents decades after Jerry Maguire.
