Every Fast and Furious movie introduces a host of new characters, some of whom become recurring characters. Despite Vin Diesel only saying “family” 13 times in the movies, it has become a common running gag for the franchise. Due to the emphasis on togetherness, friendship, family, and loyalty, many of the more fascinating characters introduced in new movies become permanent fixtures. While some of the more prominent recurring characters’ pasts have been detailed briefly during their introductions, their backstories deserve more elaborate treatments so their unique abilities and personalities can be explained better.
However, due to the potential of having two of the biggest action stars pair up, Shaw and Hobbs are the only Fast & Furious characters with a spinoff. There are many other characters the franchise has introduced who deserve their own Fast and Furious spinoff movies. Some of the more mysterious members, however, deserve a prequel even more than a spinoff. While it’ll be interesting to see what they do when they’re not teaming up with the central crew, it’ll be better to discover where some of them came from and why they can do what they can.

Queenie
Played By Helen Mirren
Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw is one of the best characters in the Fast and Furious movies. Despite not having many appearances, he makes an impression every time with his imposing physicality, his dry sense of humor, and absolute lack of restraint. While the spinoff movie Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw gave us a glimpse into what a day looks like for Deckard after he becomes law-abiding, we don’t know much about his history.
Deckard’s brother, Owen Shaw, was the first member of Shaw’s family we met, and it was not until F9 that their mother, Magdalene “Queenie” Shaw, was introduced. It was later revealed that she had committed multiple crimes, for which she was even incarcerated at one point. However, the nature and extent of these crimes weren’t discussed. It would be interesting to see how she brought up her children and if she led them down the path of crime. The prequel could give us more context on the entire Shaw family.

Jakob Toretto
Played By John Cena
In a franchise starring every major action star in Hollywood, it was only a matter of time before John Cena showed up. His presence in both F9 and Fast X, especially the latter, improves the comedic quality of his scenes, but his character seems both poorly written and underrated. Jakob Toretto is supposed to be the long-lost brother of Dominic Toretto, but there’s little to no backstory revealed about him to explain that properly.
Jakob is first introduced as a villain before reconciling with Dom and joining his crew for the rest of F9 and the part of Fast X that he is present in.
Unfortunately, Jakob Toretto died in Fast X, and without literally using supernatural franchise rule-breaking mechanics, it’d be impossible to bring him back. So, a full-length Fast and Furious movie with Jakob and Dom bonding as brothers and exchanging childhood stories is out of the question. However, given Cena’s popularity as an action comedy star and the franchise’s reputation for doing over-the-top action, a prequel about Jakob’s childhood and growing up to become the precision driver he is introduced as, could be a lucrative film for producers.

D. K.
Played By Brian Tee
It might be an unpopular opinion about such a famous film franchise, but Tokyo Drift is the best Fast and Furious movie. It focuses entirely on driving and racing, and even introduces an obsession with drifting as a new cultural part of the underground scene in Tokyo. The film introduced audiences to Han, who has since become a fan-favorite character that the franchise recently seemingly brought back from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.
It would be amazing to see more drift racing and watch Takashi become D.K.
However, every character in Tokyo Drift tells a compelling story because the film focuses on their experiences as people instead of spending all its runtime setting up car racing set pieces. Among them is D. K., or Drift King, aka Takashi, the main antagonist of the movie. He has a reputation for being the best drift racer and a short-tempered man backed by the mob. While the minimal backstory and his one scene interacting with his uncle give us memorable moments, it would be amazing to see more drift racing and watch Takashi become D.K.

Mr. Nobody
Played By Kurt Russell
While he’s a recurring character, Mr. Nobody has only made cameo appearances in each film since his introduction in Furious 7. He is a government agent who runs the underground operation known as The Agency. After establishing contact with Dom, he soon became a head agent for the crew, giving them missions to go on and providing them with all the tactical gear and their dream cars for these missions.
While his death is yet to be confirmed, Mr. Nobody has now been succeeded by another agent following his presumed death. Knowing the franchise, there is a significant chance he will resurface in Fast XI for another iconic cameo appearance. However, as much as the mysterious characterization has its own charm, it’d be great to see where Mr. Nobody comes from. The story of him becoming an important agent and running the Agency, and the other teams he used to and still leads, apart from Dom’s crew, would make for some fantastic movies.

Ramsey
Played By Nathalie Emmanuel
Although her introduction was somewhat disappointing because it seemed like she might be a damsel in distress eye candy in the film, Ramsey quickly became one of the more interesting new characters in the franchise. Ever since her first appearance in Furious 7, she’s been a staple member of the crew. She’s a brilliant computer nerd who designed a world-class military weapon and can hack into practically any technology if given the chance.
Ramsey has grown into a more action-prone character who actively participates in missions beyond being tech support.
When we first met Ramsey, she was on the run, trying to take down the weapon she had created. She then joins the crew for good and helps them out on missions as a computer and technology person. However, little is known about her past. Apart from her brilliant grasp of technology and her incredible hacking skills, we only have a few details about her. Such a fascinating character, one of the few female characters with unique skill sets and a real personality in the franchise, deserves her own prequel.

Tej Parker
Played By Ludacris
2 Fast 2 Furious is often considered to be the disappointing second film the franchise bounced back from because of its frenetic narrative that seems to be unsure of what exactly the movie is supposed to be. However, instead of devolving into a chaotic mess, the film does a relatively good job of blending vehicular action with espionage though the vibe is significantly different from The Fast and The Furious. That might be a good thing, because Tej Parker deserves an introduction in a film that reflects his ridiculous skillset.
Tej is the designated tech person of the crew with vast knowledge of everything vehicular. There is simply no modification he cannot add to a car, and he has even successfully engineered paragliding for cars. Ludacris’ whimsical energy gives him an edge that makes him feel like a wisecracking genius. However, when we meet him, he is running races underground, and even if that exposed him to cars regularly, one wonders how he developed his acute skills for weaponry and vehicular modification. A prequel would cover that well.
2
Roman Pearce
Played By Tyrese Gibson
It would be difficult to stand being around Roman Pearce, even if he is a beloved and iconic movie character. His introduction in 2 Fast 2 Furious establishes him as a serious and capable character with great physical strength for stunts. However, he has been reduced to a comic relief character since and he doesn’t have much to contribute meaningfully beyond screaming and a few entirely inexplicable moments of unbelievable courage.
He once served in prison, and he was a childhood friend of Brian’s.
While fans feel like the franchise wronged Roman by ruining his seriousness in favor of the comical characterization, none can deny that he is iconic either way. His one-liners and moments of realizations are things to look forward to in every single movie in the franchise. However, all we know is that he once served in prison, and he was a childhood friend of Brian’s. A prequel about Roman Pearce wouldn’t just give us context on perhaps the loudest and most snappy character in the franchise, but would give us a glimpse into Brian O’Conner’s childhood, too.

Han Lue
Played By Sung Kang
Apart from all the great cinematic aspects of Tokyo Drift, it’s the best movie in the franchise also because it introduces Han Lue. The most relaxed character in the whole franchise, he is the definition of calm-headed. An expert improviser, Han exudes charm and never gets flustered. He has managed many daring escapes in his life, including faking his own death, which proves how skilled he is at his job.
However, Han is a complete mystery as no one knows much about his past. He was an indispensable member of the crew and will continue to be so, now that he’s returned after his fake death. His very presence calms people down as he smoothly talks through difficult situations and is perhaps the second-best driver in the team after Dom. Han’s Zen-like existence and his worldview makes one wonder about his past. A prequel would possibly not just include amazing stunts, like in Tokyo Drift, and also give us more backstory on the fascinating character.
