Hang On, Bucky Barnes Got A New Superhero Suit In Thunderbolts* But What’s His New Hero Name?

Bucky Barnes is an essential part of the Thunderbolts*

story, and despite gaining a newfound purpose, he has yet to get a proper superhero name. Yes, when Bucky returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he was going by the codename Winter Soldier, but this was not a name he could be proud of or own.

For decades, Bucky was brainwashed and controlled by HYDRA, where he was sent on ᴀssignments to kill people as the Winter Soldier. This is not a part of Bucky’s history that he can take any pride in, and continuing to use the тιтle Winter Soldier only serves to remind Bucky of the many dark points in his life. So, with a new suit, and a brand-new team, Bucky needs to get a proper superhero name.

Bucky Barnes Gets A New Suit In The Thunderbolts* Credits Scene

The New Avengers Come With A new Uniform

In Thunderbolts*, Bucky and the rest of The New Avengers can be seen relaxing in the Avengers Tower in New York. Most of the team is also sporting new costumes, including Bucky, who has a super suit that appears distinctly different to his previous costumes. As well as including the New Avengers logo, it also has a red star shape. And, of course, it distinctly showcases his Vibranium arm.

This shows that the team has embraced their new roles as a superhero group, and while characters like Yelena already has her name, inheriting it from her sister, Bucky stands out with a lack of a proper superhero name. And in all honesty, the fact that this has been neglected for years now needs to be rectified as soon as possible to properly pay respect to the character.

Bucky Barnes Still Doesn’t Have An Official Superhero Name After Thunderbolts*

The Winter Soldier Is A Moniker Bucky Could Stand To Leave Behind

As noted above, Winter Soldier was his codename when he was being controlled by HYDRA. This name is attached to a terrible past and a trail of bodies. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky wanted to try and do what he could to make things right with the survivors and bystanders in his ruthless attacks. In addition, Bucky was also presented with a new name by the Wakandans, who were grateful for his help in finding and capturing the man who killed their king, T’Chaka, T’Challa’s father.

Since then, Bucky has not lived among the Wakandans for some time, and he actively fought against them when he was trying to help Sam use Baron Zemo. As a result, the nickname they gave him, White Wolf, may also not feel like a good fit for the newly public hero. With all of that in mind, Bucky needs to settle on a fitting superhero name that he can own and feel comfortable with.

I Have An Idea About What Bucky Barnes’ Superhero Name Could Be

Bucky Barnes Has Multiple Aliases In Marvel Comics

Fortunately, there is a perfect name waiting to be used by the hero which comes straight from the comics, and appears to have a lot in common with the new superhero suit he wears in the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene. In the comics, Bucky discovers a secret organization was responsible for many of the darkest and worst moments in his life. This ranges from Bucky’s father’s death when he was just a boy, to his transformation into the Winter Soldier in the first place. The organization is known as the Outer Circle, and when Bucky learns the truth, he makes it his mission to hunt down the leader of the group.

Being a highly skilled ᴀssᴀssin, Bucky is able to track down the leader of the Outer Circle, and he kills him. The leader was known as The Revolution, and Bucky decided to take this name as a way of reclaiming his idenтιтy, changing the narrative, and taking control of his life. And while the story may not marry up exactly in the MCU, the idea of Bucky shedding his dark past and having a revolutionary rebirth holds weight for Sebastian Stan’s version of the character too. But whether Bucky chooses this name or something else in the MCU remains to be seen in a future entry beyond Thunderbolts*.
