Sinners’ Domestic Box Office Hits Incredible Milestone That Basically Proves It’s A Hit

Sinners has hit an outstanding milestone at the domestic box office. The new horror movie, which was directed by Ryan Coogler, stars Michael B. Jordan as identical twins Smoke and Stack, who must battle a terrifying evil when they return to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1932. The Sinners release kicked off with a bang, earning a $48 million debut that marked the best Easter opening weekend for an R-rated movie in history. Since then, it has climbed past the $250 million milestone worldwide by the end of just three weeks in theaters.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, Sinners is projected to earn a 3-day total of $22 million at the domestic box office by the end of its fourth weekend in theaters. This will see it landing at No. 2 on the domestic chart for the second weekend in a row after holding the No. 1 spot for two consecutive weekends prior to the release of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*. This total also pushes its cumulative domestic total to $215.3 million, surging past the mᴀssive $200 million domestic milestone.

What This Means For Sinners

It Is A Standout For R-Rated Horror

The Sinners box office hitting this staggering total makes it just the third 2025 movie to pᴀss the $200 million domestic milestone, behind Captain America: Brave New World ($200.4 million) and A Minecraft Movie ($401 million). Moreover, it is only the fourth R-rated horror movie to ever pᴀss this milestone, behind It: Chapter Two ($211.6 million), The Exorcist ($233 million), and It ($328.9 million). While it may not become the highest-grossing тιтle on the chart, it is already set to outgross It: Chapter Two and is well on its way toward surpᴀssing The Exorcist.

The 1973 horror classic The Exorcist is widely regarded as one of the scariest movies of all time.

Additionally, the movie’s box office performance has more than justified the huge reported budget of Sinners. Its $90 to $100 million price tag probably placed its break-even point somewhere between $225 and $250 million, which is a range it has already surpᴀssed worldwide and nearly outstripped at the domestic box office alone. That budget was risky for an R-rated horror movie, particularly an original horror movie, but it seems to have paid off in a major way, helping cement the movie as a modern classic before it even leaves theaters.

Our Take On The Sinners Box Office Milestone

It Is A Sweeping Success Across The Board

The box office performance of Sinners is matched by its critical reception, which has seen it earn a Certified Fresh 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes with a Verified H๏τ 96% audience score. The movie has already become a bona fide phenomenon before it has even spent a month in theaters, which hopefully opens the door for more original horror movies to follow in its wake. Additionally, should Ryan Coogler make another entry in the genre, it seems highly likely that he will be given whatever budget he would want, no matter how high.
