Despite what Marvel might say, I think Anthony Mackie’s recent social media video has confirmed that the Scarlet Witch will return from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in Avengers: Doomsday. I know I’m not alone in thinking that Wanda Maximoff’s MCU career has been underserved, culminating in a stunning pivot into villainy after enduring one of the most tragic arcs in the MCU. After turning to the insidious Darkhold out of desperation following the loss of her children and the love of her life, Wanda’s time in the MCU came to a premature end.
This made it apparent that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff would not be among the cavalcade of characters confirmed to be starring in the Multiverse Saga’s climactic movie, Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios recently revealed many of the cast members due to appear in Avengers: Doomsday via a surprise 5-hour live stream, consisting of expected names like Anthony Mackie and surprising ones like Ian McKellen. Kevin Feige has since confirmed that additional names are incoming, and I’m now hopeful that Elizabeth Olsen will be among them.
Marvel Has Confirmed Scarlet Witch Is Officially ᴅᴇᴀᴅ In The MCU
Agatha All Along Hammers The Point Home
Wanda Maximoff’s death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was as suspicious as it was controversial. As one of the MCU’s most powerful superheroes, having the Scarlet Witch die in a hail of rubble seems immediately implausible, but many questioned the veracity of this death as no body was shown, and a suspicious red flash accompanied the moment of impact. This raised eyebrows as it seems possible that Scarlet Witch, who was at the height of her power in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, instead used her power to exit the collapsing structure in the nick of time.
Wanda Maximoff was responsible for bringing the Darkhold Castle down around herself as she strove to destroy every last copy of the Darkhold.
Nevertheless, Marvel seems hellbent on confirming that Wanda Maximoff is indeed ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. This was most stringently ᴀsserted in Agatha All Along, where the Scarlet Witch was brought up multiple times. In the first episode, Wanda’s corpse was depicted as part of Agatha’s personal hex, with characters like Herb confirming that Wanda is “really most sincerely ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.” Agatha goes on to confirm her nemesis’s demise later in the show. Still, it isn’t as if Marvel is averse to throwing viewers off the scent, and I think Anthony Mackie’s recent social media post helps to fuel suspicions.
Anthony Mackie Shared A Video In A Snowy Location While Filming Avengers: Doomsday
There Aren’t Many Snowy Locations In The MCU
Anthony Mackie is now one of the foremost figures in the MCU after succeeding Chris Evans as the franchise’s new Captain America. It wasn’t surprising, therefore, to see his name appear on the list of confirmed cast members for Avengers: Doomsday, which was revealed as part of an announcement that production was now underway. Mackie recently treated MCU fans to a brief behind-the-scenes look at how the filming of Avengers: Doomsday is progressing, revealing that he was recently on set in a snowy locale in a video posted to social media, shared via Cosmic Circus.

The video shows Mackie in a frigid location as he jokingly wishes that viewers are enjoying a “warm, beautiful sunny day” before surveying his icy surroundings. There aren’t many details published about the Avengers: Doomsday narrative and what locations may feature thus far, but Mackie’s short video offers the smallest insight into what we can expect. There haven’t been many snowy locations throughout the MCU so far, but one that immediately springs to mind when looking at Mackie’s surroundings is one of the main set pieces of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Mount Wundagore.
Marvel Theory: The Avengers Resurrect Scarlet Witch In Doomsday
Captain America Could Be Travelling To Mount Wundagore
If my suspicions are correct, and Mackie’s Captain America is indeed visiting Mount Wundagore, then this can only amount to one eventuality: the resurrection of the Scarlet Witch. After the end of Captain America: Brave New World, Sam Wilson is getting to work recruiting the Avengers (while apparently litigating against the New Avengers if the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene is anything to go by), and it would make sense for him to target one of the most powerful Avengers of yesteryear. Evidently, however, he’ll need to discover some way of bringing her back.
Marvel Comics has a reputation for reviving characters, and I don’t see why this shouldn’t extend to the MCU.
This would be strangely refreshing in the context of the Multiverse Saga. One of the main criticisms against the Multiverse Saga and its limitless universes is that it somehow cheapens death by facilitating the possibility of variants taking any character’s place. The foremost example of this is Loki, who, in his self-тιтled show, is a variant of the Loki who died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. This could also be what Marvel intends by reintroducing Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU as a potential villainous variant of Tony Stark. Straight-up resurrection, meanwhile, isn’t exactly commonplace.
Marvel Comics has a reputation for reviving characters, and I don’t see why this shouldn’t extend to the MCU. This feels particularly fitting for Wanda Maximoff, one of the MCU’s most prominent mystical characters with the ability to warp reality itself. I can imagine Cap getting tips from another mystic like Wong or Doctor Strange to orchestrate this resurrection. However he achieves it, I think it’s especially prudent for the Avengers leader to try everything to bring Wanda back into the fold.
Why Scarlet Witch Is Important For Fighting Doctor Doom
Scarlet Witch Is One Of The Most Powerful Avengers
Doctor Doom is an especially powerful Marvel villain who many believe will emerge victorious in Avengers: Doomsday, like Thanos did in Avengers: Infinity War. If Marvel additionally adapts the “Secret Wars” run of comics accurately, then the Multiverse Saga’s arch-villain is likely to become a bona fide god in Avengers: Secret Wars. With that in mind, the Avengers are going to need to pull out the big guns against him, and it’s hard to think of a gun bigger than Wanda Maximoff.
Before ostensibly losing her life in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda flaunted powers that were enough to kill all the members of Earth-838’s Illuminati. Given that this team comprises some of Marvel’s most powerful characters, the тιтular team in Avengers: Doomsday could use these immense talents to stand up to Doctor Doom. Exactly how successful Wanda will be, however, remains to be seen. At the very least, reintroducing the Scarlet Witch at her most powerful only to have her defeated would certainly convey the threat levels of Doctor Doom, and it’s certainly a fight I want to see.
