Does Clown In A Cornfield Have A Post-Credits Scene?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Clown in a CornfieldThe modern slasher revolution continues with Clown in a Cornfield, the cinematic adaptation of Adam Cesare’s 2020 young adult novel, naturally yielding curiosity about whether there’s a post-credits scene that teases more of the franchise’s lore. Clown In a Cornfield stars Katie Douglas and a cast of young relative newcomers alongside veteran actors Will Sᴀsso (Mad TV), Aaron Abrams (Amelia) and Kevin Durand (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes). The classic slasher follows a new girl and her friends in a conservative rural town as they try to escape a killer clown named Frendo.

The latest in a recent run of killer clown movies is based on a novel of the same name that has since spawned two sequels since it was released in 2020. The movie stays relatively true to the source material, taking some necessary and appropriate departures for the sake of the cinematic experience. With two other novels continuing to follow the central character, Quinn Maybrook, readers will be naturally curious about how far into the overarching narrative the movie goes, and whether Clown in a Cornfield offers any hints at future installments in a post-credits scene.

Clown In A Cornfield Does Not Have A Post-Credits Scene

There Is Neither A Mid-Credits Nor Post-Credits Scene

Despite two other novels to work with in addition to the story laid out in Clown in a Cornfield, it has been confirmed that there is no extra scene during or after the credits. Post-credits scenes have become more popular recently whether movies are part of a franchise or not, sometimes offering a gag or brief follow-up to a minor plot point. While it’s always encouraged that moviegoers stay to watch the credits in appreciation of the talented individuals who make any movie happen, there is no extra content or Easter egg to unearth once the credits roll.

Why Clown In A Cornfield Doesn’t Have A Post-Credits Scene

The Movie’s Main Plot Is Resolved By The End

The movie only covers the first of the three novels in the Clown in a Cornfield series, and it’s a fairly self-contained story. The main reason that there is no post-credits scene is that the plot is fairly wrapped up by the movie’s end. Frendo (or rather all the Frendos) has been unmasked, and the motivation behind the string of killings is revealed. While several of the main characters meet appropriately grisly ends, Quinn, Cole and Rust survive and thrive together in Kettle Springs, with the final scene showing Quinn saying goodbye a year after the murders.

Clown in a Cornfield has a relatively low budget, and there was certainly no guarantee that the movie adaptation would be a success. Therefore, it makes sense that director Eli Craig and his team would not want to tease another chapter in Quinn’s story. They wouldn’t want to set up a sequel only to never see one green-lit in the future.

While there isn’t a post-credits scene for Clown in a Cornfield, there are enough threads left open at the end of the movie that it’s perfectly natural to expect one. The mastermind behind the entire Frendo murder spree, Cole’s father and the town’s leader, Arthur Hill, escaped the bloody final confrontation between Quinn, her father, Cole, and the remaining Frendos. He is presumably still out there somewhere, and his reappearance in Quinn, Cole, and Rust’s lives would certainly justify a sequel regardless of how closely the franchise sticks to the novels.

Early reviews for Clown in a Cornfield have been outstanding, so it seems likely that another low-budget sequel that follows the second of Adam Cesare’s novels will have support behind it. With profitability seemingly a foregone conclusion for the highly-anticipated modern slasher, a sequel could be in the works in relatively short order. I wouldn’t expect an announcement for at least a couple of months if it does come to pᴀss though, as profitabilty will always be the deciding factor.
