I’ve Been Waiting 21 Years For Kill Bill 3, & Uma Thurman’s New Action Movie Role Already Makes Me Want It More

The trailer for Netflix’s The Old Guard 2 has revealed Uma Thurman’s villainous character, Discord, who is bringing up old hopes for her return as the Bride in Kill Bill: Volume 3. As it shows the return of Andy and her crew, the trailer for The Old Guard 2 gives viewers a glimpse at Thurman’s long-awaited return to the action genre. Though Thurman plays the antagonist of her new film, her role as Discord serves as a reminder of how she never got to continue being an action hero in Kill Bill: Volume 3.

Writer-director Quentin Tarantino has often discussed how he planned to make a Kill Bill sequel 15 years after the original film, centered on Nikki getting revenge against Beatrix for killing her mother. Over 20 years later, no such film has been made. At the same time, Thurman hasn’t starred in many action films since Kill Bill: Volume 2, seemingly marking the end of her acting career within the genre. While a third Kill Bill movie seems unlikely, The Old Guard 2 gives Thurman’s fans a worthy subsтιтute.

The Old Guard 2 Looks Like A Good Reminder Of Uma Thurman’s Action Movie Capabilities

Uma Thurman Flexes Her Iconic Action Movie Skills In The Old Guard 2

Much like the Bride in the Kill Bill movies, Discord in The Old Guard 2 is on a quest for vengeance against Andy and her immortal companions for seemingly turning against their kind. Though the first movie teased Veronica Ngo’s Quýnh to be the sequel’s main antagonist, the trailer for The Old Guard 2 reveals that Thurman will take the stage as Andy’s biggest, most fearsome adversary yet.

The trailer doesn’t show Thurman fighting that much, but it still teases a climactic fight scene between her and Charlize Theron, allowing both actors to flex their fighting skills. Discord even rocks a katana like the Bride, allowing Kill Bill fans to see Thurman show off her swordfighting prowess once more without having to wait for a third Kill Bill movie.

Uma Thurman’s Action Return Makes Me Want Kill Bill 3 Even More Than Before

Uma Thurman Shows She Can Continue To Be An Action Star In Kill Bill Volume 3

If Thurman is still capable of starring in an action film like The Old Guard 2, she could indeed reprise her role as the Bride in Kill Bill: Volume 3. It would be very thrilling to see her character again after all these years, especially after the last Kill Bill movie ended with the Bride riding off into the night and into the unknown with her daughter, B.B. There are numerous directions her story could go in next.

Though Kill Bill: Volume 2‘s ending left the Bride and B.B. off on a high note, their adventures together decades after the second film could be an intriguing threequel. Seeing Thurman collaborating with Tarantino again to bring such a story to the big screen would be especially thrilling, a reunion long in the making. Since Tarantino is the mastermind behind the entire Kill Bill franchise, there is arguably no one else more fit to write the next chapter in the Bride’s story.

Why Kill Bill 3 Probably Won’t Ever Happen

Quentin Tarantino Likely Won’t Want To Make A Third Kill Bill Movie

While Tarantino initially hoped to make a third Kill Bill movie, the director has shown that this dream faded over time. In 2021, Tarantino said he did not want to make a third Kill Bill movie due to how exhausted the production of the first two films left him (via The Playlist). Tarantino has since reiterated that the threequel would not be his next film. This was back when he was planning to direct the now-canceled film The Movie Critic, but it’s clear that his pᴀssion for another Kill Bill film has dwindled.

While Tarantino is still planning to make his tenth and final movie soon, he’s made it pretty clear his swansong won’t be a sequel to his previous films. The fact that he’s only written the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for David Fincher to direct shows how particular he is with his next movie, as he is steering towards directing an original story for the big screen.

While the world may never see the third volume of Kill Bill, at least not one directed by Tarantino, The Old Guard 2 has allowed Uma Thurman to relive her glory days as the Bride by portraying the film’s katana-wielding villain. Her role as Discord has proven that Thurman still has what it takes to be a shining action movie figure. Based on the trailer for her new film, Thurman will help make The Old Guard 2 the Kill Bill movie audiences have long hoped to see.
