Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Thunderbolts*.An Avengers: Doomsday theory shows how Doctor Doom is now more likely to defeat all Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes due to the latest MCU movie reveal. Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom will be taking on multiple superhero teams when he debuts. Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast is confirmed to feature the Avengers, the Thunderbolts (The New Avengers), Fox’s original X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and more. With all those teams combined, Doctor Doom would have a hard time being victorious.
Since Doctor Doom has yet to debut, we do not know how powerful Downey’s version of the character is. That said, based on the comics, it makes sense that the MCU’s Doctor Doom will pose such a major threat to the heroes in the events of the next Avengers movie, as he is not only a genius, but has vast knowledge of magic and more. However, Doctor Doom’s biggest advantage in defeating the heroes in Avengers: Doomsday might lie elsewhere, and I believe Marvel just confirmed it.
The Avengers Lost To Thanos Because They Were Divided
The MCU Created A Major Clash Between Its Heroes
Before Doctor Doom — and Kang the Conqueror — the main villain of the MCU was Josh Brolin’s Thanos. Marvel Studios used the MCU’s Avengers movies to deliver some of the biggest twists in cinematic history, and Avengers: Infinity War‘s ending was the biggest of them. Thanos and his army were successful, with the Mad тιтan beating the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and other MCU heroes, turning half of the universe’s population to dust.

The main reason the Avengers ended up losing to Thanos was that the heroes were divided. Captain America: Civil War marked the split of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers sided against the Sokovia Accords, defeated Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man to save Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and broke his friends out of prison. Avengers: Endgame showed that had the Avengers been a united front in Infinity War, Thanos would not have won.
Thunderbolts* Has Just Created A Conflict Between Two Avengers Teams
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Find Themselves With A Legal Dilemma
I couldn’t help but notice that Thunderbolts*‘s post-credits scene could be the start of Civil War 2 for the MCU, putting the Avengers in the same weakened position that led to Thanos being successful. At the end of Thunderbolts*, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine declared that the team was now The New Avengers, with the world loving it. In the post-credits scene, we not only got to see the team established over a year later, but Marvel revealed a clash between heroes.
The reason for that is that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson had already set out to restart the Avengers at the end of Captain America: Brave New World. As expected, Captain America was not happy about the team of anti-heroes suddenly claiming the Avengers name. The MCU is now seeing a clash between The New Avengers and Sam Wilson’s Avengers, with the latter using the legal route — through the Avengers trademark — to get what he wants. The two Avengers teams could have bad blood in Avengers: Doomsday.
I’m Convinced Doctor Doom Beats The Avengers And Creates Battleworld In Doomsday
Marvel Comics Shows How The Avengers Movie Can Have An Epic Ending
Marvel Studios is known for laying down teases for future projects with pretty much every new MCU release. As such, I can’t believe that Thunderbolts*‘s Avengers reveal would simply not be explored in Avengers: Doomsday. Since there will be so many superhero teams in the film, having them divided and even possibly clashing between them would be the perfect way to make it easier for Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom to take the heroes down.

Based on the timeline of events in the 2015 Secret Wars storyline from Marvel Comics, I feel like Avengers: Doomsday has the perfect setup to pull off an Infinity War-like ending. With the two Avengers teams not working together, Doctor Doom could get the power to reshape the multiverse, either taking it from Loki or someone else, and proceed to create Battleworld as incursions destroy everything else. Avengers: Secret Wars would then fully take place in that location. Based on the Civil War-like conflict Thunderbolts* sets up, I believe Doctor Doom will win in Avengers: Doomsday.
