Vincent D’Onofrio Addresses Kingpin Movie Appearance Hopes & Wilson Fisk’s Complicated Rights Amid Spider-Man 4 Speculation

Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, addresses his hopes that Wilson Fisk will make it into the Marvel Studios movies. While the MCU timeline has featured some of Marvel’s most famous villains throughout the years, one big bad that has yet to make his way into the films is Kingpin. Despite being a Daredevil foe, Kingpin falls into a complicated rights situation with Sony Pictures, given his ties to Spider-Man.

In a new interview with Awards Buzz, D’Onofrio, who recently returned to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again earlier this year, was asked if there were any particular characters from the rest of the franchise that he would love to share the screen with in the future. D’Onofrio opened up on how he hopes that Sony and Marvel Studios will figure things out with the character rights for Kingpin, as he shared the following:

I would love for them to get the rights thing figured out with Sony, you know, so that I can start doing the films too. I think that will eventually happen, I don’t know when or anything about how they’re going about it – or if they’re even going about it, I have no idea – but I can’t imagine that they won’t figure out something eventually. We’ll see.

What Vincent D’Onofrio’s MCU Comments Mean For Kingpin

As of this story’s publication, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have yet to comment on the situation regarding Kingpin’s movie rights. However, it’s crucial to remember that they still have their active Spider-Man collaboration, which, in theory, could be the opening for D’Onofrio’s character to finally get brought into the Spider-Man: Brand New Day story, as that is the film many fans want to see him show up in the most. Given the events of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Kingpin having a role in Tom Holland’s upcoming sequel would make perfect sense.

From what D’Onofrio shared, it’s clear that he hopes rights complications will not permanently keep Kingpin from MCU movies, especially after Mayor Fisk’s actions in the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 finale, which would affect characters like Spider-Man. Even though D’Onofrio stated that he isn’t aware if there are any active conversations going on between Sony and Marvel, his comments make it seem like he is definitely hopeful that something will get worked out in due time. Whether or not that will be just in time for Spider-Man: Brand New Day or a later MCU movie remains to be seen.

Our Take On Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin Comments

Kingpin Wilson Fisk holding his head with his hand in Daredevil Born Again

While fans will have to wait and see if D’Onofrio joins Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it would be a mᴀssive shame if Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios didn’t make an attempt to get Kingpin into the MCU movies. With Mayor Fisk being an active threat right now to heroes in New York, it would be a huge waste not to use D’Onofrio in the films, as Kingpin is one of the best villains in the entire franchise and currently a bigger danger than ever. Hopefully, whether it’s in Phase 6 or later, D’Onofrio will finally get his wish by taking part in future MCU movies as Kingpin.
