Sinners’ Global Box Office Milestone Lands On Major Highest-Grossing Charts For Horror Movie

Ryan Coogler’s period vampire horror hit Sinners has pᴀssed a major milestone that sets it among some of the most successful features of the genre. The Black Panther director’s new feature follows two twins hoping to strike out on their own and set up a business in the face of 1930’s bigotry, which all comes to a halt when they’re confronted with bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Sinners features Michael B. Jordan, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, and Li Jun Li.

As Sinners continues to hold its own at the box office following its third weekend in theaters, The Numbers reports that Coogler’s latest production has hit $240 million worldwide, solidifying its place among several iconic horror features. This gross places it as the 27th highest-grossing horror movie, between Alien: Covenant and Resident Evil: Retribution. Sinners‘ placement means that the international release has surpᴀssed fellow iconic vampire features Interview With the Vampire and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which rank at #30 and #32, respectively.

What Sinners’ Box Office Success Means For The Future Of The Industry

Sinners May Help Bring Forth A Horror Revival

Sinners‘ domestic box office run has already made it one of the most notable horror hits of all time, reaching sixth place on the domestic all-time chart with its gross of $182 million and falling between Get Out and A Quiet Place. Coogler’s hit has only cemented itself further as 2025’s greatest success so far. Additionally, its placement among other horror features suggests a potential renaissance of a subgenre.

Among the all-time best-performing horror features at the worldwide box office, Sinners has become the highest-performing vampire movie internationally. When paired with the prior success of Nosferatu, and the popularity of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire on the small screen, it is clear that audiences have a fondness for the creatures of the night. It seems likely that studios will be keen to create more vampire stories going forward.

Sinners is already a monumental achievement for Coogler, as, alongside a highly successful box office run and widespread acclaim, the deal he arranged with Warner Bros. offers him an incredible amount of control over his project. This could now lead to a ripple effect across the industry as more filmmakers seek similar deals. For the time being, at least, it is clear that Sinners has enshrined its place among some of the most beloved horror movies of all time.
