The Blade Team & Thunderbolts* Composers Branch Out From The MCU For Secretive New Movie Starring Mahershala Ali

Thunderbolts* stands apart from the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe in part thanks to the work of Everything Everywhere all at Once composers Son Lux, who have just revealed their next project. The Academy Award-nominated composers surprised some audiences by following up their indie 2023 Best Picture winner with the 36th MCU film, and their next project choice is just as exciting of a move. The composers revealed what they were working on during the latest episode of Score: The Podcast, the followup to Score: A Film Music Documentary by Kenny Holmes and Matt Schrader.

ScreenRant is excited to present a clip from Score: The Podcast in which Thunderbolts* composers Son Lux reveal their next project after the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe entry. They will be scoring Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a movie written and to be directed by Bᴀssam Tariq and starring Mahershala Ali. Fittingly, Tariq and Ali were signed on to bring the MCU’s version of Blade to audiences, although that film is in limbo with Tariq officially no longer attached. Take a look at the clip and check out Son Lux on Score: The Podcast on YouTube and digital platforms.

Why Son Lux Is An Exciting Addition To Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother After Thunderbolts*

Very little is known about Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother outside of its director and cast, which admittedly promises a thrilling array of talent as John Cho (The Harold & Kumar films), Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian), Tramell Tillman (Severance), and Tiffany Boone (Mufasa: The Lion King) are all slated to appear. This is a great sign of the movie’s quality, but so is the fact that the Everything Everywhere all at Once composers are interested. Although Thunderbolts* is only the second film to be scored by the band, the musicians currently have a flawless record of picking nuanced, interesting projects.

Son Lux’s involvement also suggests that their music will play an important role in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. In an upcoming interview with ScreenRant for Thunderbolts* (which ScreenRant’s review gave a 8/10 stars) founding member Ryan Lott said they had “a formative experience on the ground level” for the MCU film: “We had the chance, as was the case with Everything Everywhere all at Once, to have a script and nothing else.” If the same is true for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Son Lux’s creativity has an opportunity to impact the movie in unexpected ways.

Of course, beyond their (so far) proven good taste in projects and early involvement, Son Lux are an exciting choice for Tariq’s new film simply because of their music. Son Lux scores don’t sound like other composers’ work, thanks to the unique creative interplay of Lott and bandmates Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang that bring new sounds and unconventional decisions to onscreen drama. As Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother sounds more and more exciting, one lingering question remains: who’s going to direct Blade?

Thunderbolts* is in theaters now.
