New Biblical Movie Crosses Major Global Box Office Milestone On 2025 Chart

While they are not always popular in the mainstream, faith-based movies have the potential to do well at the box office. Some of these тιтles are overtly religious, such as the 2024 Alan Ritchson drama Ordinary Angels. Other тιтles that get looped in the faith-based subcategory are less overtly God-infused but still resonate with Christian messaging. One such success is Sound of Freedom, a 2023 movie about a government agent who attempts to rescue children from child traffickers. Sound of Freedom made a remarkable $250.5 million at the worldwide box office.

2025 has already been strong for Christian-centric works. Episodes of the Biblical series The Chosen: Last Supper were released in theaters and performed remarkably well, given that they were also slated to hit the small screen. These episodes ended up making just shy of $25 million worldwide, making The Chosen the no. 30 highest-grossing тιтle at the 2025 box office. Now, another faith-based тιтle is succeeding at the box office, and has just crossed a key box office milestone.

The King Of Kings Is Now In The Box Office Top 15

It Beat Out Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera

The King of Kings has now made it onto a key box office list. This computer-animated film features a fictionalized version of Charles Dickens telling a story to his son about the life of Jesus. The film is directed by Seong-ho Jang and features an A-list leading voice cast including Pierce Brosnan, Forest Whitaker, Uma Thurman, Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Hamill, Ben Kingsley, Dee Bradley Baker, Roman Griffin Davis, and Jim Cummings.

Per Box Office Mojo, The King of Kings has crossed into a key box office list. The movie is now in the top 15 at the worldwide box office for 2025 releases. At the time of writing, the movie was in the no. 13 slot with a $62.3 million gross. It ranks above Den of Thieves: Pantera and The Accountant 2.

What This Means For The King Of Kings

Faith-Based Films Can Be Box Office Darlings

The Accountant 2 was just released on April 25, so it has had two fewer weeks in theaters than The King of Kings, which was put out on April 11. Still, it is impressive for a faith-based movie like this to be outpacing that and to beat Den of Thieves: Pantera, which has completed its run. The King of Kings is only $6 million behind the Stephen King adaptation, The Monkey, so it is still possible for it to ascend the charts as it continues in theaters. Taking the example from this and The Chosen, it is clear that Biblical films can do extremely well at the box office, and 2025 is no exception.
