Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock Reunite For New Romantic Thriller 19 Years After Last Movie Together

Keanu Reeves

and Sandra Bullock will reunite for a new romantic thriller almost two decades after their last collaboration. Released in 1994, Speed marked the first collaboration between Reeves and Bullock, with the hit action film memorably featuring a premise involving a bomb on a bus that will explode if the vehicle goes under 50mph. Reeves opted not to return for the 1997 sequel, which saw Bullock reprising her role as Annie, but the two did eventually work together in 2006 with The Lake House, a supernatural romance.

Per THR, Reeves and Bullock are now attached to star in an unтιтled film that is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. The romantic thriller will feature a script from Noah Oppenheim, who recently co-created the hit Netflix show Zero Day starring Robert De Niro. While no plot details have been shared just yet, the project has been described as “propulsive.” The movie will also reunite Reeves and Bullock with Mark Gordon, who will be serving as a producer on the project after previously producing Speed.

Also producing are Reeves, Bullock via Fortis Films, Bibby Dunn via The Mark Gordon Company, and Sarah Bremner via Prologue Entertainment.

What This Means For Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock

Will Their Next Collaboration Be A Success?

Keanu Reeves embraces Sandra Bullock in The Lake House

Though there are no story details for the new movie just yet, the news comes as talk of a potential Speed 3 with Reeves and Bullock continues. Reeves decided not to return for Speed 2: Cruise Control due to the movie’s script, and the film ended up being a critical and commercia dud. Graham Yost, the original Speed‘s screenwriter, revealed to ComicBook.com that the poor performance of Cruise Control is at least partially to blame for the pair not reuniting for a threequel, but 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell did recently say that the studio would be up for another installment.

The Lake House also failed to live up to the success of Speed, at least with critics. The romance film has just a 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was a respectable commercial success. The movie grossed $114 million worldwide on a $40 million budget, suggesting the power of Reeves and Bullock on-screen was a big selling point for audiences. After the success of the John Wick movies and The Lost City (2022), both Reeves and Bullock remain in the Hollywood spotlight, and their reunion could be a major benefit to this next collaboration.

Reeves will next appear in Ballerina: From The World of John Wick, a spinoff film starring Ana de Armas.

Our Take On Reeves & Bullock’s New Movie

The Movie Could Be Years Away

With this new collaboration still in development and with no filming window in sight, it’s still a few years away from making its way to audiences. It’s possible that Reeves will first return in the in-development John Wick 5, depending on which project advances first. In any case, it’s been almost two decades since audiences last saw Reeves and Bullock on-screen together, and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic between the duo is different all these years later.

Reeves has kept busy with the John Wick franchise in recent years, so a romantic thriller could end up being quite the departure for him. The Lost City, on the other hand, had rom-com elements in it and was a hit, proving that Bullock still feels right at home in films with romantic storylines. Many questions remain about this new unтιтled collaboration, but it’s evidently one to look forward to.
