Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Movie, Starfighter, Can Be The Perfect Replacement For One Part Of The Mandalorian

Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, could re-use one major detail from The Mandalorian franchise. Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie is a standalone set a few years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Though details are sparse, we know that Starfighter will focus on entirely new characters, with Gosling believed to be taking on the role of a (possibly Force-sensitive) pilot.

Given the тιтle’s connection to the nearly 25-year-old Star Wars: Starfighter game, which followed a group of pilots dealing with the Trade Federation before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Starfighter’s links with The Mandalorian franchise, and its upcoming film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, may seem weak. There is, however, potential for one major piece of Mandalorian lore to make its way into Star Wars: Starfighter. Ryan Gosling’s character will presumably need a starship, and Star Wars already has the perfect option.

The Razor Crest’s Return Means We Might Not See The N-1 In The Mandalorian & Grogu

When Din Djarin’s iconic Razor Crest ship was destroyed in The Mandalorian season 2, Din and Star Wars fans were heartbroken. It was the perfect ship for a bounty hunter; spacious and kitted out with top-of-the-line offensive measures. Many, including myself, were surprised when Din Djarin’s new ship was revealed as a Naboo N-1 Starfighter. The N-1 was sleek and incredibly fast, but was it truly suitable for Din’s needs? Grogu may have gotten a 180-degree view of the stars, but what about all of Din’s equipment? What if he ever wanted to return to bounty hunting?

The N-1 was sleek and incredibly fast, but was it truly suitable for Din’s needs?

Interestingly, however, the Razor Crest will return in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Footage released at Star Wars Celebration 2025 and previously at D23 in 2024 includes the Razor Crest, and it’s unlikely they’d reveal it so prominently if it were barely relevant. Given where The Mandalorian season 3 left off, with Din and Grogu becoming “bounty hunters” in the service of the New Republic, giving them back a Razor Crest is fitting. Presumably, they’ll be gone for long periods as they hunt the galaxy for signs of the Empire’s return. They’ll need all the space (and weaponry) they can get.

The Razor Crest has always been part of The Mandalorian’s iconography. If it does return as Din’s primary ship, as we believe it will, it’s unlikely we’ll see much, if anything at all, of Din’s modified N-1 Starfighter. That doesn’t mean we’ll never see that ship again, however. I think it would be perfect for Star Wars: Starfighter.

Star Wars: Starfighter Could Bring Back The Naboo Starfighter

Though the N-1 Starfighter might not have been the perfect choice for Din Djarin’s character, it could be the perfect choice for Ryan Gosling’s. It is still an undeniably cool ship. The design is memorable, its speed is unmatched, and Din Djarin even had fun flying it. If Ryan Gosling’s character is indeed a pilot, especially a Force-sensitive one, as we suspect, a cool, fast, maneuverable ship like the N-1 could provide some incredibly тιԍнт, fast-paced action scenes.

Yes, Starfighter takes place after The Rise of Skywalker, so a prequel-era Naboo starship would be even more “outdated” in-universe, as it were. However, giving Gosling’s character and potential allies an N-1, or at least a variation of the same design, would have the added benefit of separating them from other pilots of the same era. Presumably, they’re special enough to warrant their own stories. Why not give them an equally special ship?

From a business point of view, reusing the N-1 would also benefit Disney, as it would allow them to keep selling N-1 merchandise or easily modify existing designs. There’s no downside. Din Djarin and Grogu deserve to have the Razor Crest back in The Mandalorian and Grogu, but I believe the N-1 still has more to offer. Why not showcase it in Star Wars: Starfighter?
