Even Elijah Wood Spotted This Lord Of The Rings Movie Mistake That “Kind Of Magically” Happens

This mistake in The Lord Of The Rings movies by Peter Jackson may seem small, but the fact that it was spotted by Elijah Wood makes it all the funnier and more magical to me. The Lord Of The Rings movies are some of the most influential films ever made and have aged incredibly well over 20 years later. Jackson’s trilogy continues to be hailed by fans as both a wonderful streamlining of J.R.R. Tolkien’s seminal works and as strong entries into the fantasy film sphere during the early 2000s.

Like most large-scale films, the Peter Jackson classics are not without their small goofs and flubs that somehow made it into the final cut of the movie. The mistakes in The Lord Of The Rings that are either obvious or require a few moments to spot, to me, add another layer of charm to the films. One specific mistake involving the Ringwraiths, though, also seemed to have charmed Elijah Wood himself, adding a twist of humor over an otherwise nail-biting scene in the first installment.

The First Lord Of The Rings Movie Contains A Mistake When The Ringwraiths Appear

The Ringwraith Seems To Be Emerging From The Tree

The first movie in Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings contains a hilarious mistake involving the Ringwraiths’ initial big scene in the film. The Ringwraiths in The Lord Of The Rings haunt the trilogy in their relentless pursuit of the One Ring, each appearance causing fear and havoc on the protagonists’ journey. However, one small detail of the Ringwraiths’ first appearance as they pursue the Hobbits out of the Shire accidentally takes some of that fear out of their otherwise unmoving arc during the epic story.

In the first The Lord Of The Rings movie, when one of the Ringwraiths searches for the Hobbits, it appears to come out of a tree, disturbing the jumpscare. The Ringwraiths can be spotted to the left of the tree where the Hobbits are hiding, making the one that lands on their shelter look as if it appeared from the tree rather than going around it. Not only did this add a quick bit of humor, but it also created a funny extra moment during the DVD commentary for the film, as even Elijah Wood spotted the directional mistake.

Even Elijah Wood Pointed Out This Fellowship Of The Ring Error

Wood Pointing It Out Makes It Even Funnier

Elijah Wood humorously pointed out this mistake with The Ringwraiths in The Lord Of The Rings DVD bonus features, inadvertently showcasing one of the reasons why the films work so well. Wood spotted and pointed out this scene during the commentary section of the DVD (via TheGamer), stating how The Ringwraith “kind of magically came out of the tree”, clearly enjoying the mistake despite it undercutting the intended tension. Wood highlighting this just makes it funnier to me and showcases why these movies have stood the test of time.

Jackson’s films incorporate quite a few of the details from each installment of Tolkien’s writings. As a result, audiences would need to rewatch them to catch every one and can, along the way, spot these small details, making the experience of revisiting The Lord Of The Rings even more entertaining.
