Ryan Reynolds’ Secret Marvel Project Revealed: X-Men Movie With ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Supporting Role

Following the success of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds is “exploring ideas” for a potential ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movie that would see the Merc with a Mouth team-up with the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the biggest events in The Multiverse Saga was the arrival of Wade Wilson in the MCU, thanks to the X-Men rights being back at Marvel Studios. After Reynolds teased last month that he may be working on a new MCU project with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool, a new report is offering more clues about how the mutants are going to be used in the franchise.

In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the trade revealed that Reynolds is developing ideas for a possible Marvel Studios movie that would see ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and X-Men characters team up. While the unтιтled movie will involve X-Men characters, this is separate from the X-Men reboot that Michael Lesslie is writing for Marvel Studios. According to THR, Reynolds’ MCU film is in “early stages” and is said to involve between three and four X-Men characters, while ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool would be a “supporting player.”

What The ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & X-Men Movie Report Means

As exciting as the news is about a ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and X-Men team-up film, there are multiple factors to take into account as it pertains to the overall MCU. To begin with, given that this is in the early stages, this doesn’t mean the same thing as being greenlit, as the project could end up not happening at all depending on how the script goes for Reynolds and whoever else may be involved. As of right now, the unтιтled X-Men and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool project doesn’t have a director attached or a targeted release date.

However, what this report shows is that Marvel Studios wants to explore the X-Men in more ways than just their own ensemble film, including with characters like ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. If this is one of the projects they are prepping for Phase 7, the time makes perfect sense as the mutants will be having a bigger spotlight in the MCU timeline after The Multiverse Saga. Whether or not Reynolds’ team-up film gets addressed by Marvel Studios at something like San Diego Comic-Con, which is in only a few months, remains to be seen.

Knowing that another MCU project with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool could be happening, it wouldn’t be shocking if this somehow became an X-Force movie, which was something they were trying to make happen during the Fox-Marvel era. That way, it would involve both X-Men characters and tap into a team that only had a brief moment to shine in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2. But for now, the world will have to wait and see what becomes of this MCU film with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and whichever X-Men characters are involved in the story.
