The John Wick franchise is going full steam ahead with sequels and spinoffs, and there’s one character who deserves to make a comeback six years after she was originally introduced. Since each John Wick movie has made more than the last, Lionsgate has been aggressively expanding the franchise with additional media. It’s got one TV show on the air and another in development, and it’s about to get its first big-screen spinoff with From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.
The mainline series is even continuing beyond Wick’s supposed death, since John Wick 5 has been confirmed with Keanu Reeves returning. There’s also an animated prequel in the works that will detail the “impossible task” that Wick had to complete in order to retire. There are plenty of great John Wick characters I’d love to see return in the franchise’s future, from John Leguizamo’s chopshop proprietor Aurelio to Willem Dafoe’s hitman mentor Marcus. But the one I want to see more than any other is Halle Berry’s Sofia.
John Wick 5 Needs To Bring Halle Berry’s Sofia Back
Sofia Was John Wick 3’s Most Exciting New Character
It’s become a common trope in John Wick movies for Wick to call upon an old friend for help when he’s in need. In John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, when Wick is on the run from every ᴀssᴀssin in the world, he hides out in Casablanca with a fellow ᴀssᴀssin named Sofia, played by Halle Berry. Berry committed just as wholeheartedly to the physicality and stunt work as Reeves himself, and Sofia made an awesome fighting partner for Wick. It would be great to see her make a comeback in John Wick 5.
John Wick 3 Just Scratched The Surface Of Halle Berry’s Sofia
She’s Not Just Another Wick Clone
Sofia only appeared briefly in Parabellum, and it feels like the movie just scratched the surface of the character. She has a long history as a killer-for-hire that her appearance in the third movie only hinted at. The threequel mentioned that she has a long-standing friendship with Wick, but it didn’t dig into any specifics of their existing relationship, because there were more pressing matters at hand. John Wick 5 can bring more depth to their dynamic.

In Parabellum’s fight scenes, Sofia was joined by her trusty attack dogs, which gave her on-screen action its own unique style. She has a pair of canine sidekicks who give her a hand when she faces a room full of goons. They’re fiercely loyal to her and they maul anyone who points a gun at her. This differentiated Sofia’s action scenes from other John Wick action scenes, and it’s a style of action that still has a ton of potential for future use.
