Death Of Snow White Trailer Unravels Twisted & Bloodier Take On Disney’s Princess Classic

The Death of Snow White trailer reveals a twisted and bloody dark take on Disney’s Princess classic. Directed by Jason Brooks, who co-wrote the script with Naomi Mechem-Miller based on the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, the film is a horror reimagining of Snow White, following the тιтular Princess who, hunted by her wicked stepmother, allies with seven murderous dwarfs to endure the terrifying dangers of the dark forest. The cast includes Sanae Loutsis, Chelsea Edmundson, Tristan Nokes, Meredith Binder, Risa Mei, and Ali Chapman.

Now, via IGN, a new trailer for The Death of Snow White has been released. The trailer follows Sanae Loutsis as Snow White, who, pursued by her wicked stepmother (Chelsea Edmundson), must brave the terrors of the shadowy forest and form an uneasy alliance with seven ᴅᴇᴀᴅly dwarfs in a dark twist on the beloved fairy tale. What The Death Of Snow White Trailer Means For The Movie

It’s Well-Timed Marketing

The Death of Snow White trailer and the movie’s release in theaters appear to be intentionally timed after Disney’s live-action Snow White remake, which caused controversy and bombed at the box office. Well before its release, Disney’s Snow White faced significant controversy surrounding its color-blind casting, Rachel Zegler’s outspoken criticism of the original movie, her and Gal Gadot’s differing views on Israel–Palestine, and the use of CGI dwarfs. The Death of Snow White, for all its own faults, does appear to use actors with dwarfism.

Disney’s Snow White bombed at the box office, making only $200 million against its mᴀssive $240–270 million budget. With Disney’s Snow White garnering so much negative attention, The Death of Snow White appears to be aiming to capitalize on that, positioning it as a mockbuster of sorts – a low-budget movie designed to capitalize on the publicity, or in this case notoriety, of a more popular or well-known movie. However, if The Death of Snow White actually fares any better, remains to be seen.

Our Take On The Death Of Snow White Trailer

It’s Another Shallow Attempt At Horror

Snow White and dwarves in The Death of Snow White

Similar to The Twisted Childhood Universe, which reimagines characters from children’s media as murderous villains, The Death of Snow White appears to be nothing more than a bloody and twisted attempt to capitalize on a famous fairy tale without much genuine horror. For instance, in ScreenRant‘s Death of Snow White review, Abigail Stevens says it “has no business being horror,” calling it a “campy gore fest.” Ultimately, The Death of Snow White looks less like a bold horror reimagining and more like a shallow, empty splatter-fest riding on the coattails of a classic name.

The Death of Snow White releases in theaters on May 2.
