The DC Universe’s Newest Movie Cancelation News Makes The Penguin Season 2 Even More Likely To Happen

Thanks to an unexpected DCU project cancellation, The Penguin season 2 is now more likely to happen than ever. James Gunn’s DCU is moving forward at a steady pace as its Gods and Monsters chapter sets the foundations for an extensive cinematic universe with тιтles such as Creature Commandos and Superman. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise is moving a little more slowly. The Batman – Part II is currently slated to release on October 1st 2027 following a couple of year-long delays.

Not long after Daniel Craig dropped from the project, THR revealed the DCU’s Sgt. Rock has been canceled. Sgt. Rock‘s cancelation comes as a surprise, as names as prominent as Craig, director Luca Guadagnino, and Colin Farrell had been linked to the movie. Creature Commandos also featured a cameo by Sgt. Rock, hinting that the character’s live-action movie would pay back the nod. DC Studios’ decision to cancel Sgt. Rock suggests that, unlike the DCEU and the MCU, the DCU won’t hesitate to discard a project that just isn’t working behind the scenes.

After The Penguin Season 1’s Stellar Reception, Audiences Are Already Hoping For Season 2

The Penguin Certainly Earned Itself A Potential Season 2 Despite Its Limited Release Concept

Lauren LeFranc’s The Penguin was devised as a limited series that tells its own self-contained story while bridging the gap between Matt Reeves’ The Batman and The Batman – Part II. However, The Penguin‘s superb quality, extraordinary performances, and shocking ending left audiences craving more. While The Penguin season 2 hasn’t been confirmed, every major figure involved has left the door open for a potential follow-up.

Sgt. Rock Being Cancelled Makes The Prospect Of The Penguin Season 2 More Likely

Colin Farrell Won’t Play Two DC Characters Simultaneously

Sgt Rock Shooting at Zombies Featured

Following Daniel Craig’s departure from the project, Colin Farrell was reportedly in talks to star in Sgt. Rock. Starring in Sgt. Rock wouldn’t have prohibited Farrell from reprising his Penguin role, as Farrell’s Oz Cobb is already confirmed to return in The Batman – Part II. However, Farrell would probably have been too busy with his Sgt. Rock duties to star in The Penguin season 2 as well. After all, Farrell repeatedly remarked on how physically and emotionally taxing it is to play the Penguin, especially throughout an entire series of his own.

Given that The Batman – Part II and The Batman – Part III will take longer to arrive than initially thought, more The Batman spinoffs seem unlikely, and Sgt. Rock has been canceled, the stage is set for The Penguin season 2. Colin Farrell may play a supporting role in The Batman – Part II, which can lay the foundations for the next chapter in Oz Cobb’s story, which in turn could be explored in a second season of his own series. Meanwhile, Sgt. Rock might remain a recurring character in DCU movies and shows that revisit WWII.
