Psych & Monk’s Futures Update Means A Crossover 19 Years In The Making Can Finally Happen

A recent update about Psych and Monk points to a possible crossover between the two detective TV shows. Created by Andy Breckman, Monk centers around the eccentric Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), a man living with obsessive-compulsive disorder who uses his unique abilities to solve cases and put the perpetrators of crime behind bars. 19 years after the series came to a conclusion, Monk remains one of the most beloved and popular police procedural dramas due to its unique take on the genre.

Meanwhile, Psych sees Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez), a consultant who pretends to be a psychic in order to help the Santa Barbara Police Department close cases. Both crime dramas have been successful enough to warrant movies based on their lead characters. So far, Monk has one film adaptation, while there are three Psych movies with the possibility of a fourth one.

There Have Been Discussions About Expanding The Psych And Monk Universes

There Might Be More Monk & Psych Movies

Given how successful Monk and Psych were, it comes as no surprise that there are still discussions about expanding the universes of both TV shows. With the news of a Royal Pains reboot, questions have arisen about whether audiences will get to see Monk and Shawn again. While there hasn’t been a Monk or Psych series reboot yet, the two eccentric detectives went on to have movies based on their TV shows. Tony Shalhoub reprised his role as the тιтle character in Mr. Monk’s New Case: A Monk Movie, and James Roday Rodriguez played Shawn Spencer in Psych’s three movies.

A Monk Movie received positive reviews, as did Psych: The Movie, Psych 2: Lᴀssie Come Home, and Psych 3: This Is Gus, which means that the continued expansion of the TV shows would be genuinely good news for fans. Audiences fall in love with the primary protagonists in Monk and Psych, and so far, there haven’t really been any TV shows that have changed the genre in the way that these two crime dramas did. Because of their uniqueness, charm, and lovable characters, an expansion of the Monk and Psych world is something that might still be successful.

There’s No Better Way To Expand The Monk And Psych Universes Than With A Crossover

There Could Be A Monk And Psych Crossover In Psych 4

Monk and Psych have several things in common. Namely, they both feature quirky characters who employ unusual methods of getting to the bottom of and solving cases. And since there are hints that Psych and Monk might be set in the same universe in the Psych season 8 finale, a crossover would be the perfect way to elevate both characterizations by having the two detectives finally work together and thus expand the universe.

The only time Monk and Psych have shared the screen is during the USA Network promos for the TV shows, which proved that a crossover between the series would work perfectly. Monk‘s creator, Andy Breckman, admitted to being a fan of Psych, so a collaboration between the crime dramas isn’t far-fetched (via Comicbook.com). With the possibility of Psych 4, it would be the most opportune time to see Monk and Shawn together.
