Despite Supernatural’s immense amount of lore over its 15 seasons, the monster-hunting show still had plenty of unresolved plotlines that they never explored. Yet, with the long-running series ending in 2020, and Supernatural’s cast moving on to other shows, for a while, it looked unlikely that we would ever see any more Winchester action. However, a previous statement by Jared Padalecki hints at a possible Supernatural revival in 2025.

According to Padalecki, when he and co-star Jensen Ackles agreed to end the show after 15 seasons, they said they would “get together in five years and see what Sam and Dean are up to.” While there is no official confirmation, and fans are divided about whether they would want a Supernatural season 16 to happen, the possibility of more adventures in the Supernatural universe is interesting. With such an expansive world, the potential storylines for another season are endless. However, there are four unfinished stories that I need Supernatural season 16 to address specifically, if it ever happens.

The Shedim

“Hell’s Most Savage” Only Had A Brief Appearance

While there are many terrifying monsters in Supernatural, the Shedim are one of the only ones we don’t know much about. Introduced in season 13, Prince of Hell Asmodeus explained how he previously tried to free the Shedim and train them, to prove his worth to Lucifer. He described the Shedim as “Hell’s most savage. Things so dark and base, God himself would not allow them into the light.” In fact, even “Lucifer feared them, as well he should.” Despite the danger, the now-permanent King of Hell decides to unleash them with Jack’s help, to help him reign.

As Jack unleashes the Shedim from a burning hole in the ground, a strange clawed hand reaches out, showing that the Shedim are corporeal, unlike other vessel-inhabiting creatures like Demons. The fact that God trapped the Shedim, much like the Leviathans, shows how big of a threat the unknown creature is, especially considering they are the “most savage” thing in Hell. While the Winchesters manage to stop Jack, the Shedim are never really brought up again after their brief introduction, leaving them with unfinished lore that we would love to learn more about.

How Castiel Really Feels About Dean

Cas’ Confession Was Never Really Addressed

As the show came to an end, Supernatural’s Castiel finally saw the consequences of the deal he made to save Jack’s life – at a moment when he is truly happy, the Empty will come for him – only this time, Cas saves Dean. In the aptly тιтled Supernatural episode “Despair,” Dean and Cas find themselves trapped in the Bunker as they hide from a murderous Billie. Realizing they have no way out, Cas decides “Happiness isn’t in the having. It’s in just being. It’s in just saying it,” and decides to admit his love for Dean.

This action causes the Empty to come for Cas, taking Billie with him, leaving Dean alone in the bunker. The confession scene confirmed how Castiel really felt about Dean in an emotional speech that had us all in tears, but Cas’ unfortunate death meant that we never got to see the ramifications of that moment beyond Dean’s grief. Therefore, if the show did make a return, Supernatural season 16’s story should include Castiel, or at least address the confession from Dean’s point of view, as that plot point remains unresolved.

Jesse The Antichrist

Supernatural Forgot About Jesse Turner’s Significance

Possibly one of the most prominent and underrated characters that should return in Supernatural season 16 is Jesse Turner. In season 3, episode 6, “I Believe The Children Are The Future,” Sam and Dean found an 11-year-old Jesse, a half-human/half-demon child (or Cambion), who was unknowingly responsible for a string of murders involving urban legends. Although Castiel said Jesse had the power to destroy Heaven and must be killed, the Winchesters disagreed, giving Jesse the benefit of the doubt. However, it is implied that Jesse used his powers to flee to Australia before much else could be done.

As “the Antichrist,” Jesse is an extremely powerful being, and this was evident in the episode, as he actively manipulated reality through thought alone. The Demons wanted Jesse for their army, and the Angels wanted to kill him for his heritage. Following his apparent escape, Jesse never reappeared in Supernatural again, not even when his opposite, the Nephilim Jack, was introduced in the later seasons. Considering Jesse’s significance and powers, fans have been waiting years to see the story resolved, and a Supernatural season 16 might be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Amy Pond’s Son

Amy’s Son Never Made Good On His Promise

Interestingly, Jesse Turner is not the only child character to never make a reappearance in Supernatural, despite all signs hinting at it. When Sam disappears to tackle a case without Dean in “The Girl Next Door,” we quickly discover that the younger Winchester has always operated in a gray area as a hunter. Through flashbacks, it’s revealed that a young Sam let his childhood friend go, despite her being a kitsune, as she swore to never kill like her mother. However, in the present, Sam discovers that Amy has started killing people for the sake of her sickly son, Jacob.

While Sam is cautiously understanding of the situation, and is willing to let Amy go, the older Winchester is less forgiving. The murder of Amy Pond demonstrates one of the few times in Supernatural that Dean Winchester was the bad guy, as he did it all behind Sam’s back and in front of her young son Jacob, who he then threatens. Jacob remarks that the only person he plans to kill is Dean, which the Winchester actively invites. However, Amy’s son never returns to make good on the promise, leaving yet another unfinished Supernatural story we’d love to see resolved.
