Avengers: Doomsday could pull more than just characters from Endgame, as a new Marvel Cinematic Universe theory showcases how Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could have led to the creation of Doctor Doom without knowing about it. The Multiverse Saga will soon have its first Avengers movies, and with no Kang the Conqueror, Victor von Doom’s arrival in the franchise has been rushed. Doctor Doom will debut in the first Avengers movie of the saga, which puts a lot of pressure on how Marvel handles the character’s backstory and mission.
Before Kang actor Jonathan Majors was fired, multiple MCU projects took the time to explain how Kang the Conqueror and his variants, the Council of Kangs, were the ultimate threat to the multiverse. Marvel fans got to slowly see the character being developed, with Kang’s backstory explored. Avengers: Doomsday‘s plot will include several MCU teams, ranging from Fox’s original X-Men to the new Avengers to the Fantastic Four and more. As such, it will be one of the MCU’s most packed movies to date, which is why explaining Doctor Doom’s origin through Avengers: Endgame would help make things smoother.
Avengers: Endgame Brought Time Travel To The MCU
The Plot Device Changed The Game For The Franchise
Avengers: Endgame saw the creation of time travel in the MCU. It all started when Ant-Man told the Avengers that time worked differently in the Quantum Realm when he returned after being stuck there for years in Earth time. With the combined might of Bruce Banner and Tony Stark’s genius-level intellects, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes managed to discover a way to travel to specific points in time, though that meant that any changes they made would impact alternate timelines, not alter their own. That led to Avengers: Endgame‘s Time Heist.
The Time Heist was the plan the Avengers came up with to get all the people who were snapped away by Thanos to come back. Since Thanos had destroyed the Infinity Stones so that the heroes could not undo his actions, the Avengers realized they had to time travel to get the stones from earlier in the MCU’s timeline. That led to Avengers: Endgame being a victory lap across the MCU, with key moments in the franchise, like the Battle of New York, being revisited by the heroes. That leads to the new Avengers: Doomsday Doctor Doom MCU origin theory.
Avengers: Doomsday Theory Claims Tony Stark Becomes Doctor Doom With An Endgame Twist
Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU Characters Could Be Connected In A Surprising Way
Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU in 2026 to give life to Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. There have been many theories about how Tony Stark and Victor von Doom could be connected, given they are played by the same actor, and a new Avengers: Doomsday theory shared on Reddit by user OSTBear explains how MCU fans might have already seen part of Doctor Doom’s origin story in Avengers: Endgame. According to the theory, Downey’s Doctor Doom would be the Tony Stark variant from the Battle of New York seen in Endgame‘s Time Heist.
The theory suggests that Iron Man could find anomalies by looking at the security tapes of Avengers Tower. Tony would then realize that Captain America was fighting a version of himself, as Loki was nowhere near them. He would learn about HYDRA infiltrating SHIELD and that Bucky Barnes was alive years earlier. We have seen how the main Tony Stark got fixated on building a suit of armor around the world, which led to Ultron. Upon learning about these events, he would obsess with them constantly, being driven mad down a darker path that culminates in Doctor Doom’s birth.
Why It Makes Sense For Tony Stark And Doctor Doom To Be The Same Person
An Avengers: Doomsday Story Element Has Been Revealed
The obvious connection between Iron Man and Doctor Doom in the MCU is that both the hero and the villain are played by the same actor, Robert Downey Jr. However, that connection will go beyond that, as the Russo Brothers, who will direct both of the upcoming Avengers movies and helmed Infinity War and Endgame, have revealed to The Times that Iron Man’s death is going to play a role in Doctor Doom’s MCU story. While the Avengers franchise directors did not go into what they meant by that, it is interesting that Marvel is admitting to the characters’ connection.

If Avengers: Doomsday explores the connection between Tony Stark and Doctor Doom, with Downey being the face of both characters, then I think the logical connection that the hero and the villain are related in some way will turn out to be accurate. The Russo Brothers’ comments about that connection help the new MCU theory, as we could be looking at the version of Tony Stark from Avengers: Endgame‘s Time Heist who comes to the main timeline after learning about Tony’s death, but by this point, he has fully descended into Doctor Doom territory for Avengers: Doomsday.
