Marvel Comics Writer Has A Bunch Of Wild Things To Say About Avengers: Doomsday

Some crucial elements may have just been revealed about Avengers: Doomsday as the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets closer to finishing The Multiverse Saga. While the MCU has been without an Avengers movie since Phase 3, Phase 6 will finally be putting the team back in the spotlight, as Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are on their way. Even though Marvel Studios always keeps as much under wraps as possible, some huge teases for Avengers: Doomsday may have just been revealed.

At the recent Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025 event, one of the most legendary Marvel Comics writers, Chris Claremont, was speaking about some key things that are seemingly happening in the next Avengers films, with the scribe only referring to the film that “is in production right now.” While it’s unclear if this is for Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, the Marvel icon shared some huge things about the Phase 6 story:

  • Robert Downey Jr. is playing not only Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, but apparently multiple different characters, while only terming them as “two other characters.”
  • Chris Evans is coming back as both Captain America (young) and a twisted version, Hydra Cap.
  • Elizabeth Olsen is not only back as Scarlet Witch, but a “good” Scarlet Witch.
  • Original X-Men trilogy star Famke Janssen is coming back as Phoenix.
  • Psylocke is apparently coming back (no casting mentioned).
  • He says there is a rumor that Wolverine kills someone “important.”

At the time of this story’s publication, Marvel Studios and Disney have not responded to Claremont’s Avengers comments. Avengers: Doomsday is being helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with the duo also set to direct Avengers: Secret Wars.

What Chris Claremont’s Avengers: Doomsday Comments Mean

While time will tell if Marvel Studios and Disney will have any responses to this, if what Claremont is claiming is true, this would make a lot of sense with what Kevin Feige shared recently, that there is more Avengers: Doomsday casting on its way. But with some of the things Claremont stated, it would mean that the MCU is really raising the bar with Avengers: Doomsday. Given the multiverse nature of it all, it makes perfect sense why Olsen, Downey Jr., and Evans would be playing multiple variants.

Some may wonder how Claremont would know this much about Avengers: Doomsday, but given his ties to the Marvel world, being one of the most acclaimed writers for the brand, it wouldn’t come as a shock if he knows people at Marvel Studios who have told him things about the MCU’s future. If that is the case, this could have been Claremont accidentally spoiling some elements of Avengers: Doomsday that would have likely been saved for a big event like a Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. But for now, it remains to be seen how much of what Claremont shared at the panel is happening in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.

From everything that Claremont shared about what is supposedly happening in the next Avengers movies, there will clearly be a lot to look forward to in Phase 6, especially for long-time MCU fans who have been following the franchise for all these years. It also wouldn’t be surprising if these aren’t the only things that Marvel Studios is making happen, as there are bound to be more returns and surprises in store. Hopefully, more clarification on what is going on with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be given sooner rather than later.
