Weapons Trailer Reveals Barbarian Director’s Next Horror Movie, And It Looks Truly Terrifying

The full trailer for Weapons reveals a better look at the new horror movie from Zach Cregger, who previously helmed 2022’s Barbarian. The upcoming horror film will tackle a story about a group of elementary school students who disappear on the same night in a small town. The Weapons cast includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Toby Huss, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, June Diane Raphael, and Amy Madigan. Alongside directing, Cregger also serves as a producer and writer on the movie. The other producers include Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifsнιтz, and Raphael Margules.

Now, Warner Bros. has released the trailer for Weapons. Check it out below:

The trailer opens with a young girl’s voice saying, “this is a true story that happened in my town.” On a random Wednesday, a group of Maybrook Elementary School students went missing in a teacher’s classroom (Garner). The narrator explains that at 2:17 am, the kids got out of their beds, walked downstairs, and then fled outside. After this shocking event, Maybrook devolves into chaos as the parents are outraged and terrified. As the search for the kids continues, Garner’s Justine is haunted by these events. The trailer also confirmed the movie’s August 8 release date.

What This Trailer Means For Weapons

2:17 Will Likely Take On Great Importance

Julia Garner in an audience looking concerned in Weapons

This full Weapons trailer confirms several plot details that were previously gleaned through the teaser and initial pH๏τographs. The narrator directly mentions that 2:17 am is when all the kids leave their houses. This time was also seen on the clock in an early image from the movie. Because so much of the publicity so far has emphasized the time stamp on the kids’ departure, it seems likely that this time will play a significant role in the plot.

The full trailer also gives a better glimpse into the experience of Justine Gandy, the teacher whose class disappears. The trailer first reveals her in an eerie image that shows her walking into an empty classroom. Later, there seems to be some accusations when someone at a school meeting says “I don’t understand at all. Why just her classroom, why only hers?” The character is later seen crying in her car and waking up with nightmares, showing how deeply the disappearance is affecting her. Weapons will follow Justine’s journey as it unwraps its horror.

Our Take On The Weapons Trailer

This Could Be A Great Role For Garner

An alarm clock on a bedside table that reads 2:17 in Weapons

Weapons has the opportunity to be a great horror comeback for Garner. Early this year, she starred in Blumhouse’s Wolf Man, which got mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office. This Cregger film seems to give her the chance to fully show off her acting chops, delving into the psyche of a character tortured by a traumatic and mysterious event. I’m excited to see what Garner and the rest of the Weapons cast have in store as this movie hits theaters on August 8.
