A Working Man Sets Up An Awesome Jason Statham Team-Up Movie If A Sequel Happens

Warning: Spoilers for A Working Man

A Working Man continued the long tradition of Jason Statham films that didn’t make much of a splash with critics, while simultaneously finding a decent amount of success with general audiences. While the movie didn’t earn as many accolades as last year’s The Beekeeper, A Working Man is definitely another success for the actor, one that could potentially lead to a much bigger franchise if he and director David Ayer continue to build off the success of this first outing.

No sequel film has been announced yet, but, since the novel series that A Working Man was based off of ran for quite some time, there are plenty of directions for another project in the franchise to go. One interesting aspect of the movie came in the form of one of Jason Statham’s Levon Cade’s friends, Gunny Lefferty, a blind ex-marine who was played by David Harbour. He was one of the bigger stars in A Working Man‘s cast besides Statham himself, and, if it does become a franchise, he would be a great candidate to return.

David Harbour Could Play A Bigger Role In A Working Man’s Sequel

It Would Be Great To See Harbour Return In Any Future Installment

Harbour’s character wasn’t in the movie too much, only appearing in a handful of scenes, but, importantly, one of the scenes he appeared in was during A Working Man‘s ending, having dinner with Cade after he rescued Jenny. Lefferty was a blind ex-marine, and the first person Cade went to when Jenny went missing, so, if the movie was going to become a franchise, it would make sense that Harbour’s character would continue to be a big part of the series, potentially having a much bigger role than he did in this first outing.

A Working Man 2 Being A Jason Statham & David Harbour Team-Up Movie Would Be A Lot Of Fun

A Leading Role For Harbour Would Be An Exciting New Direction For The Sequel

David Harbour’s stardom has been steadily rising in recent years since his breakout performance in Stranger Things, and A Working Man‘s potential sequel would certainly benefit from giving him an expanded role in the franchise. He would be a great comedic presence to juxtapose the extremely serious character that Statham plays, giving the series a nice balance between intensity and comedy. While the franchise could certainly continue its fairly intense overall tone, a layer of lightheartedness would help to keep subsequent movies feeling fresh, even as the plot continued to be very serious.

A Working Man didn’t earn as much as his last movie, only making $87 million as opposed to The Beekeeper‘s $162 million, but it was still a great success off a $40 million budget.

Harbour’s character would also be great to see more of due to his blindness, which could be a great way to inject some more creative action scenes into the series. Donnie Yen’s Caine in John Wick 4 was one of the best parts of that movie, and A Working Man‘s possible continuation could take some notes from that film and make some unique action scenes based around a blind fighter. That kind of character is a H๏τbed for creativity in the action genre, and hopefully, if A Working Man does continue, he will get some time in the spotlight.
