The Gag Reel Expands The World Of The Movie

Recently, it has become less common for movies to have gag reels, probably because a great deal of the at-home film market has turned away from physical media and toward streaming. However, the fact that Section 31 is graced with such a thorough and humorous bonus features promises that not only will the at-home release be given the same treatment as a more robust physical media release from a decade or more ago, the entire slate of special features should be similarly fleshed-out and entertaining. Below, see a breakdown of the entire slate of special features for the at-home release:

Art Squad – Production Designer Paul Kirby and Set Decorator Summer Gaal take us through the sets designed for Section 31. (available only on UHD, Blu-ray and Digital)

Alpha Squad – A breakdown of each of the six members of the Section 31 Squad: Alok, Quasi, Zeph, Rachel Garrett, Melle and Fuzz.

Stunts Squad – Stunt Coordinator Christopher McGuire and his team take us through the prep and execution of many of the stunts designed for the film.

Gear Squad – Prop Master Mario Moreira gives a look inside the prop closet and all the gadgets

Georgiou – Philippa Georgiou is one of the most complex characters in Trek history. Sometimes a villain. Sometimes a hero. The producers, screenplay writer Craig Sweeny, the team that created her look, and the Emperor herself, Michelle Yeoh, talk about further developing this fascinating character.

Gag Reel

The gag reel also offers a glimpse at some of the people behind the movie who do not always get to be front and center. While the Star Trek: Section 31 cast still gets a lot of air time, particularly because the clip package centers on a series of sH๏τs of Sam Richardson improvising during one key dialogue scene, the backstage glimpses include a long moment with Michelle Yeoh’s stunt double, who is heard speaking after a fall goes slightly wrong in the scene that opens the video.

While Georgiou is considerably less imposing when seen from this perspective, another thing that the Star Trek: Section 31 gag reel offers is a glimpse into the on-set antics of Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh. While the star is known for her imperious and commanding characters, this glimpse behind the scenes of the Star Trek movie reveals her more playful side, which is both an amusing facet of the video and proof of her wide range as an actor, considering how quickly she can switch between modes.
