movie came out. Cranston may have soared to new heights when he starred in 2008s Breaking Bad, but the actor had actually been appearing in various TV shows and minor film roles since 1980. Like many actors, he paid his dues appearing in odd projects that never led to anything more.

However, it must have been a surprise for the now-renowned actor when one of the earliest and most unusual projects on his record called on him to play a major part in a feature film adventure tied to the show. However, Bryan Cranston is a good sport, and clearly found joy in returning to a project, despite how minor it could have been as a point in his career.

In 2017, the Power Rangers made their way from TV to theaters with a feature-length big-budget film. While the movie was a faithful and exciting reimagining of the source material, it didn’t necessarily capture the imaginations of general audiences, and the movie ultimately only grossed $142 million on the $120 million production budget (via The Numbers), making it a poor investment for production studios to continue pursuing, but the movie had its highlights.

For instance, Bryan Cranston was cast to play Zordon, and expand on the story of that character and their role as the original Red Ranger. It meant that Cranston had a pretty hefty and important role in the film. And obviously, for an actor of his caliber, this role was unlikely and challenging, but it was very likely to stir up memories in Cranston due to his pre-existing relationship to the Power Rangers franchise. And the sentimentality of the role likely played a part in making this a worthwhile project for Cranston to put himself into.

Bryan Cranston began his on-screen acting career back in 1980 when he landed a minor uncredited role in a TV movie. From there, Cranston continued to land bit roles, and expand his resume with more TV work. However, one interesting addition in his career was voicing two characters in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers back in 1993, during the show’s first season. And due to the minor nature of his role as a voice actor for two minor villains of the week, Cranston didn’t even get credited for his work in the show.

While the parts of Snizzard and Twin Man were not all that complex, and it ultimately added up to a few minutes’ worth of voice work that made it to the screen, this came at a point in Bryan Cranston’s career when he had little else. It wasn’t until 2000 that the actor would land his breakout role as Hal, the dad in Malcolm in the Middle, and many years after that until he was acknowledged for his incredible talents and versatility. But no doubt, returning to Power Rangers decades after his debut in the series, Bryan Cranston likely got a kick out of this full-circle moment in his career.
