Sentry actor Lewis Pullman weighs in on the power rankings that pit Thunderbolts*‘ Sentry against DC Comics’ Superman and other similar characters. Thunderbolts* introduces one of the MCU’s most powerful characters, Robert Reynolds a.k.a. Sentry. With super strength that rivals that of Thor, energy powers similar to those of Captain Marvel, and ᴀssorted abilities like flight, pH๏τokinesis, and enhanced senses, Sentry stands at the top of Marvel Comics’ power rankings. Thunderbolts*‘ Sentry may be slightly less powerful than his comic book counterpart, but he’s still strong enough to leave most MCU powerhouses in the dust.
Speaking to ComicBookMovie while promoting Thunderbolts*, Sentry actor Lewis Pullman addresses his character’s comparisons to Superman, Omni-Man, and Homelander. Pullman jokes that Bob “would have to tap out for some therapy” and hope his Sentry alter ego is powerful enough to get the job done. Pullman also hints that Sentry will become stronger soon, saying “give him a couple of years.” Check out Lewis Pullman’s full response below:
“Against Superman, Homelander, and Omni Man? Jeez, you know, I think he would have to tap out for some therapy. I think he feels like he has some impostor [syndrome] that to be like, ‘sorry, can we pause this for one second? I’m just gonna call my guy. But give him a couple of years…?
What Lewis Pullman’s Superman Comments Mean For Thunderbolts*’ Sentry
Sentry’s Power May Vary In the MCU After Thunderbolts*
Thunderbolts* presents Lewis Pullman’s Sentry as a nearly invincible villain, as his regular Sentry powers place him on the same power level as characters like Thor and Captain Marvel, and his Void alter ego allows him to turn anybody into a literal shadow in a single instant. Thanks to the Void, Sentry could easily beat characters as powerful as Superman, Omni-Man, and Homelander. If Sentry loses his Void powers in Thunderbolts*, the fight might be more balanced.
Lewis Pullman’s response also suggests that Sentry will become even stronger after Thunderbolts*. Since Sentry will be one of many characters joining forces to battle Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, one would expect the opposite to be true. Marvel Studios may need to restrain Sentry in order to give the rest of Avengers: Doomsday‘s characters a role in the story. Therefore, Pullman may be referring to Sentry’s return after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, where he could power up to face new opponents by himself.
Our Take On Lewis Pullman’s Sentry & Superman Comments
It’s Difficult To Declare A Winner Between Sentry And Superman
Power scaling is a tricky issue, not only because characters’ power levels change from adaptation to adaptation and from one appearance to the other, but also because sheer physical strength and abilities aren’t the only factor at play. For instance, one character can use a weak ability to neutralize a much stronger opponent. Thunderbolts*‘ Sentry may be powerful enough to defeat every live-action Superman introduced so far. But precisely due to Thunderbolts*‘ depiction of the Void, Superman’s pure heart could allow him to enter the Void unscathed and turn Sentry back into Robert Reynolds.
