The new thriller from Blumhouse has hit a major milestone in its third weekend. Blumhouse Productions is an entertainment company that has become known for their output in the horror genre, especially when it comes to home-grown franchises. These include The Purge, M3GAN, Happy Death Day, and the supernatural franchises Insidious, Ouija, Paranormal Activity, and Sinister, though they have also made new installments in classic franchises such as Halloween and The Exorcist. Standalone original movies that have been made by Blumhouse include Imaginary, Night Swim, Truth or Dare, Get Out, and Us.

Although Blumhouse movies are largely supernatural and lean more toward the horror genre, the company has also made quite a few out-and-out thrillers, though usually ones that center on horror elements. This includes the home invasion thriller Hush, which was an early outing from The Life of Chuck director Mike Flanagan, the psychological thriller Ma, which starred Octavia Spencer, and their newest movie that has now hit a new milestone at the domestic box office.

Drop Continues To Climb The Domestic Chart

Drop has pᴀssed a box office milestone. The Blumhouse thriller, which was directed by Christopher Landon, stars Meghann Fahy as a woman named Violet whose first date with Henry (Brandon Sklenar) goes horribly wrong when an unknown villain sends drop files to her phone that threaten her son and demand that she kill her date. Critics’ reactions have been largely positive, earning it a Certified Fresh 84% Rotten Tomatoes score alongside an 80% audience score. Are there aspects of Drop that seem too convenient and outlandish? Yes. But that’s not worth discussing because the film’s thrills, performances, and pacing are just so good. It’s an exceptionally fun film that will play well with audiences. It’s the kind of film that not only makes for a great theatrical experience but will also make you want to watch it again immediately afterward to see what you missed the first time. I had a great time with it, that’s for sure.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, Drop is projected to close out its third weekend in theaters with a 3-day total of $950,000 at the domestic box office. This pushes its cumulative domestic total to $15.8 million, allowing it to pᴀss the $15 million domestic milestone. This is more than $4 million higher than its $11 million budget, though its price tag means that its break-even point is most likely somewhere around $27.5 million. It could very well hit this goal, as it has already grossed more than $22 million worldwide.

What This Means For Drop

It Has Surpᴀssed Other 2025 Genre тιтles

The new Blumhouse thriller has now become the 27th 2025 release to pᴀss the $15 million domestic milestone so far. Though the Drop release could continue to climb up the chart, it has already surpᴀssed the domestic grosses of quite a few new release horror and thriller movies including Steven Soderbergh’s Presence ($6.9 million), the Finn Wolfhard co-directed slasher Hell of a Summer ($3.2 million), and A24’s Opus ($1.99 million). However, it is a far cry from the highest-grossing horror or thriller release of the year so far, which is the runaway hit Sinners ($119.5 million).
