Lilo & Sтιтch’s Runtime Reportedly Revealed & It’s 25% Longer Than The Animated Original

The runtime for the upcoming live-action remake of Lilo & Sтιтch seems to have been revealed, and it’s longer than the original. The original animated film from Disney, which came out in 2002, followed the unlikely and charming friendship between a lonely girl and an experiment from space that crash-landed in Hawaii. The live-action adaptation will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and star Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Chris Sanders returning to voice Sтιтch, Sydney Agudong as Nani, Kaipo Dudoit as David, Zach Galifianakis as Jumba, and Billy Magnussen as Pleakley.

Now, according to its official listing on AMC Theatres‘ website, the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Sтιтch has a runtime of 1 hour and 48 minutes. This puts the Disney remake as being 25% longer than the original animated feature’s runtime, which clocked in at 85 minutes long. It should be noted, however, that AMC is the only theater chain with a current listing of the movie’s runtime. This current runtime suggests that the remake will have either extended or more scenes than the original.

What This Means For The Lilo & Sтιтch Live-Action Adaptation

It Isn’t That Much Longer Than The Original

While AMC is the only theater chain listing the runtime of the live-action remake of Lilo & Sтιтch, discussion forums like Reddit have already clung to the released information from AMC and are discussing it online, with some fans emphasizing their predictions for the film’s success. Others instead compared its runtime to the live-action How to Train Your Dragon and said the live-action Lilo & Sтιтch is not much longer than the original. The latter is true, as the live-action remake seems to only be about 23 minutes longer than the original, which would include the end credits.

Our Take On Lilo & Sтιтch’s Longer Runtime

Camp & His Creative Team Might Use Those Extra 23 Minutes Well

ᴀssuming that a good length of those extra 23 minutes in the live-action remake of Lilo & Sтιтch are included in the actual film rather than the credits, Camp and his creative team may have used that extra time well by either extending fan-favorite scenes without convoluting them or introducing new scenes that could become favorites on their own. It should be noted that most live-action remakes are longer than their originals, intending to further flesh out character development and add scenes that aim to make the live-action versions stand out.

Since it was already brought up by fan speculation, the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon is 2 hours and 5 minutes long, which is about 32 minutes longer than the original. For comparison, the original How to Train Your Dragon is only about eight minutes longer than the original Lilo & Sтιтch, and the live-action adaptation adds nine more minutes to its original than its compeтιтor. In the case of Lilo & Sтιтch, however, what’s been shown so far and Camp’s experience with editing Marcel the Shell with Shoes On hint at a satisfying, heartwarming live-action rendition.
