BTS Superman Movie Detail May Have Revealed Exactly How A DCU Hero Will Be Adapted To Live-Action

James Gunn’s behind-the-scenes Superman trailer may have dropped a hint at a Creature Commandos character’s live-action appearance. The DCU officially kicked off with Creature Commandos, which introduced a team of anti-heroes in animated format within the same continuity as other DCU characters, such as David Corenswet’s Superman and The Brave and the Bold‘s yet-to-be-cast Batman. All the Creature Commandos‘ тιтular anti-heroes can return in future live-action DCU projects, played by the same actors who voice them in their animated show.

The DCU’s Creature Commandos completed their mission with fewer casualties than both iterations of the DCEU’s Suicide Squad. With only one exception, the entire Task Force M team has a high chance of returning in the DCU’s Waller series, and each individual character could make a cameo in any other movie or show. G.I. Robot, in particular, also has a high chance of appearing in the upcoming Sgt. Rock movie, as Sgt. Rock himself made a cameo in Creature Commandos episode 3. If G.I. Robot’s next DCU appearance takes place in the present, he’ll likely return sporting his new body.

Superman’s BTS Trailer Drops A Hint At What G.I. Robot May Look Like In Live-Action

Superman’s Fortress Of Solitude Robots Are All Practical

The behind-the-scenes Superman trailer released on Superman Day features a brief glimpse at the Fortress of Solitude set, where James Gunn appears to control a Fortress robot caretaker with the movement of his own body. The entirety of the robot seems to be practical and apparently uses real-time motion capture technology. James Gunn’s decision to use fully practical, real-life robots for the Fortress of Solitude scenes adds an unparalleled layer of realism to Superman, but it also suggests that G.I. Robot’s live-action portrayal could employ the exact same method.

Superman’s Practical Effects Are Perfect For DCU Characters Like G.I. Robot

The DCU May Use More Practical Effects Than Expected

Upgraded GI Robot in Creature Commandos Episode 7

G.I. Robot is an old-school robot in both the DCU and the comics. If a practical approach suits any character, it’s him, both in his original and his redesigned forms. And given that Superman‘s Fortress of Solitude robots look so realistic, it’s possible that other DCU characters will follow a similar approach. The Creature Commandos season 1 finale sets up a new Task Force M line-up with the addition of anti-heroes like Nosferata and Khalis, both of which would benefit from a completely or almost completely practical look, honoring their classic horror roots.

Beyond Creature Commandos, countless DC characters would benefit from practical effects and make-up. Swamp Thing, Clayface, Lobo, Cyborg, and Beast Boy are some of the DCU heroes and villains that offer a wide variety of possibilities for ultra-realistic practical effects. Of course, CGI is always necessary in order to make practical effects cohesive, but real-life physical resources like Superman‘s Fortress of Solitude robots make a huge difference on screen.
