ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine Already Set Up A Way For Foggy Nelson To Return To The MCU, But Not How You Think

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.

Foggy Nelson might have met his tragic demise in the MCU, but ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine already teased the perfect way for him to return despite his shocking Daredevil: Born Again fate. Franklin “Foggy” Nelson is perhaps Matthew Murdock’s most iconic supporting character, which means he has been featured in every live-action Daredevil project as the childhood friend and legal partner to the Man Without Fear. In the MCU, Elden Henson debuted as Foggy Nelson in Netflix’s Daredevil series, and reprised the role in 2025’s Daredevil: Born Again, but this came with a sudden and horrible twist.

Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere might have bid him an emotional farewell, but there have been many theories ideating how the beloved Foggy Nelson could return to the MCU. There are hopes that Elden Henson will reprise the role in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 or future MCU projects, but there is another option that Marvel Studios made possible in 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine. The Multiverse Saga movie bridged the gap between the MCU and some of 20th Century Fox’s classic Marvel movies, including 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra.

Elektra’s Return In ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine Suggests Jon Favreau Could Also Reprise His Daredevil Role

Jennifer Garner Returned As Elektra From The 2000s In ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine

While Ben Affleck didn’t reprise his classic Marvel role of Daredevil for an appearance in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, his co-star did, as Jennifer Garner returned as Elektra Natchios. Élodie Yung portrayed Elektra in the MCU’s Defenders Saga, but it was great to see Garner return to seek redemption for her wasted Marvel hero, and her appearance in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine suggests even more characters from 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra could return. This might include a new version of Foggy Nelson, as Jon Favreau played the character before Elden Henson.

Jon Favreau has become better known for playing Harold “Happy” Hogan in the MCU, as well as directing 2008’s Iron Man and 2010’s Iron Man 2. Five years before Iron Man, however, Jon Favreau starred as Foggy Nelson opposite Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, so Marvel Studios’ exploration of the multiverse offers the chance for Favreau to reprise this classic role. Jennifer Garner’s return confirms that Daredevil and Elektra’s reality is canon in the multiverse, so Jon Favreau’s Foggy Nelson does exist out there somewhere, which presents an interesting way for Foggy to return to the MCU.

What Jon Favreau Has Said About Returning To The MCU As Foggy Nelson

Jon Favreau Is Open To Returning As Foggy Nelson

Currently, Jon Favreau is the longest-running actor in the MCU, having appeared in every Phase of the franchise since his debut in 2008’s Iron Man. His most recent appearance came during ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, but not as Foggy Nelson, rather as his usual MCU character of Happy Hogan. While it seems likely Favreau’s Happy will be returning, despite this not yet being confirmed, the actor has also voiced his interest in reprising the role of Foggy Nelson. During conversation with CBR at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Favreau opened up about a possible multiverse appearance.

That’s right, I play a number [of Marvel characters]. Happy Hogan, Foggy. I was in with the other Daredevil [Charlie Cox] as Happy [in Spider-Man: No Way Home]. It’s a lot to keep track of.

Although he stays mum about the possibility he could actually return as Foggy Nelson, Jon Favreau does not deny this opportunity, meaning the door is wide open for Favreau’s Foggy to return. Jon Favreau last appeared as Foggy Nelson in 2003’s Daredevil, so his possible return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars would see him come back after over two decades. This would not only continue Jon Favreau’s impressive MCU streak, but also allow one of the most popular supporting Daredevil characters to come back after his sudden death in Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil: Born Again’s Huge Loss Means Now Is The Perfect Time For Jon Favreau’s Foggy Nelson To Return

Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson Died In Daredevil: Born Again’s Premiere

Following the series’ mᴀssive creative overhaul, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson were finally confirmed to be returning as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, in Daredevil: Born Again. This was an exciting development for the revival series, but Elden Henson was only brought back so that his already-planned death could be shown on-screen, rather than in the gap between Daredevil season 3 and Born Again. Daredevil: Born Again’s premiere opened with Foggy being killed by Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye, hired to ᴀssᴀssinate Foggy and his client, Benjamin Cafaro, by Vanessa Fisk.

There has been speculation that Foggy Nelson’s death could have been faked, just as it is in Marvel Comics, which opens the door for Elden Henson to return in the MCU’s future. However, the void left by Henson’s Foggy Nelson means that Jon Favreau could reprise his classic role to fill the space, perhaps even joining Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck and Charlie Cox as Elektra and two versions of Matt Murdock’s Daredevil in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. This would be a fantastic way to celebrate Jon Favreau’s remarkable MCU career.

Jon Favreau Is One Of The MCU’s Longest-Running Actors, So He Should Be Celebrated

His possible return as Foggy Nelson may give Jon Favreau the chance to continue his impressive MCU record. Favreau is currently the longest-running actor in the MCU, having made eight appearances in the franchise between 2008’s Iron Man and 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine. Favreau has also voiced Happy Hogan numerous times in the animated What If…? series, which even explored his evolution into the Hulk-like Freak, though his live-action MCU story has partnered him primarily with Tony Stark’s Iron Man and Peter Parker’s Spider-Man.

Despite being the MCU’s longest-running actor and having an incredibly strong relationship with Marvel Studios, Jon Favreau has seldom been the center of attention in the MCU. This made it even more thrilling to see him finally get a centric episode in What If…? season 2, though it would be brilliant to see Favreau celebrated more in live-action, too. After Elektra’s return in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, it’s possible that Marvel could give Jon Favreau attention either as Happy Hogan or Foggy Nelson, or perhaps even both in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
